Untether an Existing iOS 5.1.1 Jailbreak With Rocky Racoon

For those iOS users who have been enjoying the 5.1.1 jailbreak in a tethered state, you can now convert your jailbreak to untethered without restoring your device. This means no more booting connected to a computer with redsn0w.

Rocky Racoon untether 5.1.1

iOS 5.1.1 tethered jailbreakers with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch 3rd and 4th generation, and original iPad can take advantage of the Rocky Racoon package on Cydia. For those with A5 devices including the iPad 2, iPad 3 and iPhone 4S, you can now jailbreak untethered with Absinthe 2.0.

You must have an iOS 5.1.1 device that was already jailbroken (tethered) with redsn0w to use Rocky Racoon.

Here are instructions on how to untether your jailbreak with Rocky Racoon:

1. Open the Cydia app store.
2. Browse under Sections -> System or use the Search function to find the Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether package.
3. Tap the Install button then Confirm.
4. After the package is installed reboot your iPhone while unplugged from the computer to make sure the jailbreak is now untethered.

Do not uninstall the Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether package in the future, or you will lose your jailbreak completely.

Now your iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak has been upgraded to untethered. As a footnote, Chronic Dev Team explains that Rocky Racoon is spelled with one 'c' after the similarly misspelled tool from IPSec Tools. It's not a mistake!
