iOS App of the Week: Hinge - Date through your extended social network

Hinge

Hinge is another dating app that allows users to swipe through other single people in their area, but it takes it one step further by searching for matches who share a common Facebook acquaintance. The app doesn't tell you how you're connected through Facebook, but receiving matches through your extended social network helps cutdown some of the randomness of the entire online dating process.

Besides the Facebook connection Hinge works like most other dating apps. You can enable location tracking so you're not stuck using the location listed on your Facebook profile and you can edit your profile with more information, such as religion and ethnicity. You can also write a small description about yourself, tag your profile with interests and delete Facebook photos you don't want shown through the app.

After everything is setup you can swipe through your potential matches, look at their Facebook photos and request more information before choosing to select them. Your potential matches on Hinge are limited based on how many Facebook friends you have, your listed location and age. You can change your preferences as man searching for woman/man/both, woman searching for man/woman/both, and you can adjust your preferred age preference from 18-to-65.

Hinge is available for free on the App Store. It supports all devices running iOS 8.0 or later. Even though matches may be limited, it does offer an interesting more personalized option to the other popular dating apps currently on the market.
