How to Activate iPhone Tethering With Firmware 3.1.2 (3G and 3GS)

anyone knows how with a jailbroken phone how can i tether with TELCEL, mexicos carrier?¿

It didn't work. It doesn't say anything about tethering when I go to settings, network. What did I miss?

I have a 3GS 3.1.2 "offically unlocked" ($150!!!!!) by Telstra Australia but they don't provide a tethering provision. While this method is good for AT & T does anyone have the settings for Telstra.

In addition I have a jail broken and unlocked 2G iPhone running 3.1.2 does anyone know if you can support tethering on this type of iphone?

Telstra are blaming Apple for the lack of tethering but it's crazy and stupid comment due to the fact that both Optus and Vodaphone in Australia do accomodate tethering. Why these two and not Telstra?

I intend moving away from Telstra and everyone else should as Telstra are basically holding all it's customers to ramsom and/or treating us as fools!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't work with a 3G 3.1.2 (7D11). Nothing new in the network settings.

well i just tried this out and YEAAAAA it worked for me
even tho i read all the comments i decided to write one of my own
to show that this works, now with that said you guys prob did somthing wrong

Works GREAT!!! This is so AWESOME!!! Everything worked as advertised! Only thing I had to do was run the black rain App twice, and BINGO, everything was smooth sailing. I have a new iphone, 8GB 3G, with the 3.1.2 OS on my iphone, AND IT WORKED!!! Just tested it with my laptop, and sure enough, my laptop was running off my iphone Internet connection, and I was impressed with the speed. Blackra1n, you or you guys are geniuses!

Hi, followed the steps as stated in this page, it works. Now I have my Phone 3 G with tethering working. Did 2 resets and plugged to get the phone recognized by iTunes, no problem at all. Thank you

I was really upset when I accidentally upgraded to this newest update and lost tethering a while back. Just followed the instructions and it works awesomely on both me and my fiance's Iphone.

The only thing the instructions here doesn't say is that when you click to download Snow, it started loading doing something then I lost my phone signal and it made me think that nothing happened because I never got another Icon. All i did when that happened was reboot again then enter http://m.peacefulinsanity.com/Tether.mobileconfig into the mobile browser. Reboot again and it was all good.

Is sn0w even necessary for tethering? sn0w seems to cause issues for some. What if you don't want unlock, just tethering?

when I click on the apple to download a message appears that says safari cannot download this file? any suggestions

Thanks a ton. Extremely helpful and I was able to use Internet Tethering. I followed the steps listed exactly and it worked right away. For those that are having trouble, try to follow the steps very closely and be very patient.

This worked for me, although the web page specified for the mobile config didn't work. However, I had the config from the benm.at site already from my previous failed attempts to get the Tethering option to appear on my Settings->General->Network screen. This time it worked and the tethering option appeared. When I turned it on and connected it to my PC running Windows 7, it loaded the driver and connected automagically. Thanks for the great info.

Anyone noticed any problems with their WIFI not working all the time after performing this Tethering install? I do not know if it is coincidense or because of the tethering install I performed but now I am having difficulty getting my WIFI to find any wireless connections available ...in other words I turn WIFI on and normally I connect to my home WIFI and also see several of my neighbors .....but during the episodes when the WIFI is not working I do not see any wifi connections available nor and it does not see and connect to my home wifi. I did notice tonight that when the wifi on the phone was working I was only getting 2.5 mbps download using the speedtest app on the iphone via the wifi no matter which server I connected to...whereas before I was getting as much as 8mbps before the tethering install.

Please note that I am not sure if my WIFI issue is related to the tethering...I am simply asking if anyone else is experiencing what I am experiencing. Maybe my phone's WIFI is now defective and it will be time for me to restore firmware and take the phone to the store.

Anyone know how to remove this tethering install? I remove the app and still show tethering available in the network settings.

I've completed the process and have the tether toggle setting. I have tethered in the past before upgrading to 3.1.2. My phone shows that i am tethering and my bluetooth shows that i am connected however i get no data transfer. i monitor my network in activity monitor and it shows some data received but no data sent. i have deleted the profile and reset my network settings and re-downloaded. i don't want to pay for mywi or even use airport to share. I want to tether the way it was intended via bluetooth or USB. Any suggestions?

has anyone noticed both 3G and wifi dropouts? I dont know if it is blacksn0w or the Tether.mobileconfig found at peacefulinsanity.com causing this but I need to find another solution for tethering(back to tinyproxy?)..
As I dont get the dataflows continuously in untethered mode its difficult to see without writing a script to see if I am getting the same dropouts sans tethered profile also.
