Apple Maps

Apple Maps keeps a history of directions and locations visited while using the app. The history makes it easy to revisit a location or remember the address of a location in the future. Of course, not everyone wants a running history of their whereabouts hanging out on their iPhone. Removing all or part of the location history from Apple Maps can be accomplished directly in the app.

Recently viewed locations are organized into sections, such as This Week and This Month. Each section can be deleted in its entirety, or individual places can be removed.

Apple has added more data to its special page titled Apple Maps Mobility Trends Reports. The tool was developed to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Anonymous data aggregated from Apple Maps can be displayed for hundreds of countries, states, cities, and regions. This provides insight into how people are responding to stay at home orders and reopening plans in your local area.

Apple Maps features a section dedicated to COVID-19 testing centers. Hospitals and testing facilities can add their data to Apple Maps using a special registration page. Anyone looking for a COVID-19 test in the United States can see a list of nearby options in Apple Maps on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

By default, Apple Maps gets directions from your current location, and delivers the distance to your destination. Measuring the distance between two places which are different than the current location takes a few more steps. By marking a location, then getting the route between points, Apple Maps can measure the route distance on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Travel time based on the mode of transportation chosen, as well as the distance in miles or kilometers is displayed.

After a less-than-stellar debut, Apple has continued to improve upon its Maps app with each new iOS iteration, including iOS 13. In addition to adding the Look Around feature (equivalent to Google's Street View) and letting you automatically share your ETA, iOS 13 also tweaks the Favorites feature and adds a Collections feature which lets you create a list of locations that you can share.
