Apple supplier and camera lens provider Largan Precision confirmed today during a press conference that it is prepared to begin shipping lenses for 3D sensing in the second half of this year.

"We will have lenses for 3-D sensing ready to ship in the second half this year," said Adam Lin, Largan's chief executive (via via Nikkei).

Lin did not specify the company who ordered the shipment, but some experts believe the camera components are headed to Apple for the iPhone 8.

Apple is expected to reveal the special-edition iPhone 8 alongside the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus this fall. More photos have leaked, this time of three metal molds, which can be used by third-party accessory manufacturers. It's clear from the images that each iPhone will require a different case, since the iPhone 8 is slightly larger than the iPhone 7s, and smaller than the 7s Plus.

Several designs for the 10th-anniversary iPhone have floated around in recent months, but now BGR is showcasing photos of a mockup. The model allegedly represents the final iPhone 8 design, which will launch alongside the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus. There are several changes coming to the iPhone 8, also known as the iPhone Edition.

A new supply chain report from Korea Economic Daily (via The Investor) supports claims that the iPhone 8 will ship with facial recognition capabilities. The report notes that LG Innotek "will supply facial recognition camera modules for the upcoming iPhone." The new camera will reportedly include the ability to sense the 3D space giving it face recognition, iris recognition and 3D selfie capabilities, according to Apple analyst KGI Ming-Chi Kuo via 9to5Mac.

A newly leaked schematic of the rumored iPhone 8 surfaced today on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo. The drawing features detailed Chinese annotations labeling the different components of the next-generation iPhone. 9to5Mac had the image translated to confirm what is being shown.
