Only $175?  I had to pony up $200 to T-Mobile to cancel my contract in order to get AT&T.  In California, there was a bill (that died after heavy lobbying by Carriers), that would force carriers operating in California to pro-rate the cancellation fee.  In my case, $200 (or $175) is fairly cheap, considering my regular monthly fee was $70 per month.  That equates to a clean wash after three months, rather that waiting 14 months for my contract to expire.  BTW, I bought my MDA phone free and clear before I signed a contract with T-Mobile.

Sure, if you're 14 months from the end of your contract, $175 seems like a steal.

For people who had 3-4 months left, not so much.
