Lady's and Gentle-iPhone Users,
There is now a piano that fits in your pocket! It is the obviously named app, Pocket Piano by Better Day Wireless
http://www.betterdaywireless.com/. This is a simple app intended for the mild amusement of the musically inquisitive. The interface display's a simple keyboard for one to plunk around on allowing the playing of your favorite tune, if you have fingertips the size of a number two pencil that is. The idea behind this app is brilliant yet falls to a two star app because of the small keys and high sensitivity of the iPhone touch screen.
This does not mean it is impossible to play this piano from your pocket. With enough practice I was able to tap out the melody of In the Hall of the Mountain King (Peer Gynt Suite) and was even able to record it. The small keys and lack of weighted keys certainly take some getting used to, however once you do it can be relatively amusing. The fun is taken to a new level when you change the color of your piano. I mean, who doesn't what to play a minute piano with zebra striped "black" keys. I know I do!
Conclusively, this app is enjoyable to play around with and certainly can fill a few hours spent in the Doldrums with (potentially) melodic merriment. If you you've got the $0.99 to drop, it won't be the worst investment you ever made, but don't expect this "instrument" to be a valuable addition to your Roland and your Les Paul. This app will definitely help avoid musical monotony from time to time, but if you are looking for something to compose on, stick with the piano that doesn't fit in your pocket... go figure.
