I've never found a single one of the map+traffic services online useful. They all have lousy information in my experience.

I haven't much tested the iPhone Google maps version yet, though.

What kind of info do you usually try to find?

Basic traffic info... where there is congestion, how severe, and why..

I've found all of the services to be fairly lacking in detail... especially the Google maps version.. it doesn't do me any good to know a section of highway is congested if I don't know why... accident, construction, gaper delay, volume, where is the source of the delay, etc?

Either that, or they are just flat wrong.

Are you talking about vacation trips or regular commute? If it's a commute you'd know if it is a construction, now the other reasons for delays why would it be important to know the actual reasons?

No, I'm talking about commute... why would I know what the cause was just because it was a commute? If I'm leaving my house, and I see two delays in the route I'd normally take... I want to know why.. as that's vital to knowing how soon the traffic is likely to clear.

Using traffic.com on your PC before leaving can be helpful, in my experience. Otherwise, I also have not found any of them to be worth a damn.

Construction isn't usually a ONE DAY (or half a day) thing, whereby you'd most likely recall where (if) there is construction on your route.

Now still I'm not sure what difference it will make to know specifically WHAT TEMPORARY reason (outside construction) would be the reason for delay?! Can you explain that?

Would this do it for you?

would be nice if gmaps had details when you clicked on a road, it could pop up an info box about what's going on on the road.. the way it does with the push pins and places

I still fail to understand why it would matter why the traffic isn't moving..?!

Because it gives you an idea of how LONG it won't be moving. Smiley

It does? How?
Anything aside from construction would be temporary, but long enough not worth waiting, and unless a 747 came down it should be cleared by the evening, no? Wink

Albeit an extreme one Smiley
