I already have an existing plan with AT&T...so if I buy an iphone, can I just put my sim card from my old phone into the iphone? Or do I have to get a new plan?

You have to:

a) renew your 2 year commitment to AT&T
b) get a new iPhone SIM card which AT&T will provide
c) get a comprehensive iPhone calling plan or add, at approx $20 cost, an iPhone data plan to your existing calling plan should you want to keep it.

It's worth noting that the minutes, features, etc of the iPhone plans beat out most other AT&T plans. The main reasons to preserve your current plan is if it either suits your specific minute and call usage best or if you have a high rollover balance (though we've heard mixed reports about AT&T being willing to sometimes  carry over your rollover minutes to an iPhone plan).

'New' iPhone users should go to Best Buy and get a free 'subsidized' ATT phone, then go to the Apple or ATT store and buy an iPhone. Activate with the number from Best Buy and you now have an iPhone + free 'backup' phone.

Best Buy doesn't sell them yet, though. Smiley

You can't do that...

Yes you can. Buy a whatever subsidized ATT phone you want; then get your iPhone.
