Anyone getting what they'd consider to be sub-standard sound quality from your visual voicemail?
Mine sounds mono and distant compared to normal sound from the phone.

I've noticed that too..especially when I try to listen to them on speaker, it sometimes seems I need to thrust my entire iPhone into my ear to hear them clearly at all!!!

Agreed. On speaker I have to do the exact same thing - put the damned speaker IN MY EAR.
Is Apple serious about this? Did they lose their f&^*ing minds?

yup. I agree. Sounds real tinny. I thought it was just my iPhone. Maybe it was the same Apple R&D guy that designed the too-deep headset jack.

Its outrageous that it was even released this way.
Same thing for the speakerphone. Is Apple f&^#ing with us?
Seriously.

Mine is lousy too, and I share the same disgust.
I go back and forth wondering whether my volume in general is a result of a malfunctioning phone or they're all just that low.
I don't want to take it back and risk something else being wrong w/ the replacement (i.e. the white dots issue, etc etc) unless I know that mine is unusually low.

between training, and AP homework, i dont' get to relax much anymore, haha,
i agree the ringtones that are on there already sound amazing, but if and when they allow custom ones, i don't think the speaker could handle it..

why would custom ringtones utilize the speaker any differently than the others?

because my custom ringtone would generally be a Fall Out Boy type song, and if you try to play a song like that full blast over the speaker as of now, it doesn't sound like a song at all. when they do custom ringtons, it will make me miss my SLVR, RAZR v3i, and KRZR whose speakers were all amazing and i loved ringtones on them

in any event, timmy, custom ringtones are pretty easy at this stage... if you need help implementing them, let me know
but - i agree - without a volume fix, music ringtones might be way too low to appreciate

Yeah but it's pay software... I have a hard time paying for something like that..
Plus, they claim that it doesn't hack your phone... which, according to every one on the dev wiki team that I've talked to, is impossible.
