Why is my email not auto-checking?

I have my mail set up to auto-check for new mail every 15 minutes. However, it's not.

When I go into my mail it will check, otherwise, it just sits there.

Any ideas?

Mine was having the same problem but then started working. Not sure what made it work.

Have you tried resetting your iPhone? We've experience setting changes like the one you mention not taking affect until the phone is power cycled and/or rebooted.

The reboot seems to be more effective, I'd give that a try. You'll likely see the mail start coming in at that point.

(reset is accomplished by holding the sleep/wake and home buttons depressed together for 6 seconds)

This does seem to have helped, but not completely solved the problem ... perhaps.

During normal occasional use now, the phone checks automatically for email. However, does the iPhone have some sort of standby/sleep mode it goes into?

When the phone overnights, and I pick it up in the morning, it hasn't checked for mail since around the time I set it down.

My email has been working fine, however, my safari closes every few minutes.
