What "partner" would you be refering to?
Whenever there is a roaming agreement between carriers be in on a national or international level the terms that you have signed on with YOU carrier (and prices) apply NOT the ones of the roaming operator, except in international roaming situation or unless your carrier specifically states that its different when roaming nationally.

Yeah, I've never heard of these kind of charges being applied. Not in this day and age, at least.

For international roaming there are indeed such roaming charges, but again these are outlined by YOUR carrier not the "host" or roaming ("partner") carrier for you as a customer.

Btw this has ALWAYS been the case in the mobile communication world, personally I've been an avid GSM user since the very first GSM networks in the early 90's in the very country where the first GSM networks were introduced.

Um, Apple's official announcement of such and video demonstration of the dedicated YouTube application?

You need to access it through a browser just like all the other 3rd party "programs" that will be offered for the iPhone. If you don't have any network connection you won't be able to do anything with the Google maps on the iPhone either!

Yes it is true that Apple is using the term application and built-in application on their press release:
http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2007/06/20youtube.html

But in a similair fashion you indeed need a "built-in application" to view Youtube on ANY device be it Mac, PC or a Windows Mobile device, that is a Video/Media Player! So this is a little play with words really.

Yes, but I am under the distinct impression it is something more application driven for the iPhone. For instance, the YouTube videos on the iPhone are reencoded to H.264 - which is not native YouTube.

Just how I took it ...

Please re-read the press release as to who is doing the enconding to H.264 Smiley

"YouTube has begun encoding their videos in the advanced H.264 format, and iPhone will be the first mobile device to use the H.264-encoded videos"

I didn't mean to imply that the iPhone or Apple was doing the reencoding. I meant that YouTube was, driven by the workings with Apple - as the iPhone only supports H.264.

Then again YouTube is owned by Google and we know Google and Apple are flirting now and that there is tension between Google and MS so it might just be.

YouTube is going to be great.

3G would be nice but it only really works if you live in a bigger city.

Like I said without 3G there's not going to be any REAL Youtube!

There's 3G anywhere where there's coverage.

Yeahh, i state again, theres no 3G within 2 hours of my house.

As a matter of fact, its WAS a Cellular One tower, but now that AT&T bought them out, it sucks for all the people that AT&T shut off becuase of too much roaming Roll Eyes

Something missing in your story, there's no such thing as ''shut off'' becuase of too much roaming, you either have an agreement and pay for roaming (usually internationally) or its an agreement between your service provider and a partner (or competitor if you want) that really has nothing to do with the retail customer (usually the case with domestic roaming.) Typing this right now with "cingular" showing on my mobile device, but I'm not a Cingular (nor at&t) customer... Wink

don't yell at me, im just relaying what has been going on in my town, and i've discussed it with our local (1 hour away) Cinglular/AT&T store.

i also know people who have got shut off, they get phone calls from Cingular that say they have been roaming too much, they are waiving their cancellation fee, and they will never be serviced by Cingular again unless they move into a preferred area.

Also, a few months before you actually get shut off, your bill will say something on it about excessive partner coverage.

we called up our local store to ask if we were in danger, and they said we weren't on the warning list.
