Apple unveiled iOS 12 during its WWDC keynote on June 4th at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California. Early testers have praised how the the beta has helped the performance of older devices, like the iPhone SE, instead of slowing them down. Animations, switching between apps and all around performance is faster on all devices running iOS 12. While the focus of the new firmware is primarily speed and stability, iOS 12 does come with a few noteworthy new features. Here are a few worth getting excited about:

Safari on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has slowly increased a limit on the number of tabs that can be left open in the background. Originally only eight tabs could be left open, then Apple introduced the Rolodex-inspired Safari interface with over 20 tabs. Since iOS 10, improvements to software and hardware alike have lifted these limits to an "unlimited" number of tabs. In reality, there's still a maximum number of Safari tabs that can be opened in iOS.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup is nearly upon us as 32 football teams (or soccer if you prefer) from around the world convene next week in Russia to compete in the quadrennial championship tournament for the world's most popular sport. The action kicks off on Thursday June 14 with Russia vs. Saudi Arabia; after that there are 63 more games broadcasting from 12 stadiums in 11 different cities across European Russia on just about every day for the next three weeks. The pace slows a bit in the fourth and final week leading up to the championship game on July 15.
