Facebook Rolls Out Photo Redesign for iPhone and Android Devices

Facebook has rolled out an improved design for all iOS and Android devices. Photos are now 3x larger and posts in your News Feed will fill your mobile screen from edge to edge. This makes browsing Facebook on your iPhone much easier since you do not have to spend time waiting for individual photos to load.

iPhone Applications

The new Facebook design makes reading your News Feed easier, but they still left out the "share" button for iOS devices. It's also reminiscent of Instagram which Facebook acquired for $1 billion. The new larger photos ensure mobile Facebook users will browse their Facebook pages more rapidly instead of waiting for slow connection times.

HomeSpringPage: Add an Empty Page to Your Home Screen for Widgets

The new jailbreak tweak HomeSpringPage allows you to create a blank page on your iPhone's Home screen to use with Dashboard X widgets. Dashboard X is another Cydia tweak that allows you to add Notification Center or user made widgets to your Home screen.

After you have installed Dashboard X ($1.99 via the ModMyi repo) and HomeSpringPage, the first page of your iPhone will be completely devoid of any app icons. This gives you the free space to add any Notification Center or jailbreak widgets you own. You can also use a combination of apps and widgets on the new page.

So what does the latest part tell us about the next generation iPhone? As MacRumors points out, the arrangement of the components is significantly different from the current iPhone 4S configuration. While the new part combines the three functions listed above, the current version groups the volume buttons, mute switch and earphone jack together.

iOS 6: Bye Bye Google Maps, Hello Third Party Siri Support?

iOS 6 rumors are heating up now that the WWDC is about a month away. Here is what Apple is expected to unveil or at least preview at the event.

WWDC

AllThingsD has confirmed an earlier report by 9to5Mac that claimed Apple would ditch Google Maps in favor for a new Maps app.

“Sources tell 9to5Mac that Apple will abandon Google’s mapping backend in the next major iteration of iOS, replacing it with a brand new mapping application powered by Apple technology. We’ve independently confirmed that this is indeed the case. Sources describe the new Maps app as a forthcoming tent-pole feature of iOS that will, in the words of one, 'blow your head off.' New A5 Jailbreak Works With iOS 5.1.1

Pod2g has confirmed that his newest jailbreak works with iOS 5.1.1. As you can see from the video posted below, pod2g has jailbroken an iPad 3 running iOS 5.1. On Friday, he tweeted that the same untethered jailbreak works with Apple's iOS 5.1.1. This means new iPad or iPhone owners with 5.1.1 pre-installed (or those who accidently updated) will be able to jailbreak their devices once it's released.

iPhone Jailbreaks

The latest untethered jailbreak should work on all iOS devices, including the new iPad and iPhone 4S. Pod2g has not given an ETA on a public release, but with all the progress the jailbreaking community has made recently it should be soon.
