iPhone 4S Audio Problems: Fixed with iOS 5.1 Update?

Some iPhone 4S users are experiencing a strange, involuntary mute when dialing out using their mobile devices. The problem is that the person dialing out can't hear anything on the other end of the line, not even a ringing phone. People receiving the calls can hear the iPhone 4S owner just fine. An Apple discussion page titled Outgoing call no audio started almost immediately after the iPhone 4S was released and has leap over to additional discussions.

Although Apple was quick to respond to complaints about iPhone 4S battery life being shorter than expected, there's no official word on whether or not a fix is in the works for the audio issue. Some iPhone owners who experienced the problem were able to correct the issue with a full restore. Others who have not had luck fixing the problem have begun to call the issue Audiogate.

When jailbreaking iOS there are sometimes caveats and unintended consequences, although normally for enthusiasts the advantages of running new software take precedence. iBooks fans might have found that after liberating their device with the latest redsn0w untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak that iBooks ceases to work.

Report: Aluminum iPhone 5 Coming Next Fall

Sources have told BGR the iPhone 5 will indeed be a complete redesign, with an appearance much like the form factor of the iPad 2. The front glass of the next generation iPhone will be connected to an all-aluminum back via a rubberized bezel. The mockup below illustrates what the aluminum iPhone might look like.

The bezel is said to be made of a similar material to the Apple Bumper cases. Not only would this bezel conceal a completely redesigned antenna system, it sounds like this would help make the iPhone 5 less slippery to hold. After all, the machined aluminum found on the iPad 2 is slick in more ways than one.

60beat's GamePad Controller Turns Your iPhone and iPad Into a Gaming Console

The iOS accessory company 60beat has released a new gaming controller for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The $50 GamePad allows you to use a physical controller instead of the annoying onscreen controls of iOS games. Unfortunately it only works with two titles (Bugdom 2 and Aftermath) right now, but I assume there will be more GamePad compatible games in the future.

The GamePad is a great accessory if you enjoy playing games on your iPad at home, but I doubt anyone is going to want to lug this thing around. It resembles a PS3 controller with dual analog joysticks and 8 action buttons. There is no Bluetooth wireless option. The GamePad connects to your headphone jack with a 4 foot long cable. That's a lot to take on the bus, but maybe not such a bad idea for kids on long car rides. Especially since it doesn't require any batteries.

Untether Your iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak With Corona

Chronic Dev Team has released a jailbreak tool on the Cydia app store for those who have already installed a tethered jailbreak on their iOS 5.0.1 devices. Using this tool, called Corona 5.0.1 Untether will modify your iPhone with the same exploits used in redsn0w. Unlike the redsn0w jailbreak process, Corona requires no computer to untether a jailbroken device.

Corona 5.0.1 Untether

In order to successfully install Corona, your iOS device must already have a tethered jailbreak installed along with iOS 5.0.1. Do not use Corona if you're using a hybrid iOS 5.0/5.0.1 jailbreak! This requires installing and running redsn0w after a clean restore to stock iOS 5.0.1.
