One of the cool things that iOS 5 will offer when Apple releases the new mobile operating system is the capability to create custom shortcuts that can be used when entering text. Of course you can have this feature right now if you jailbreak your iPhone and install the utility called Xpandr using the Cydia app store.

Xpandr costs $1.99 and can be found in Cydia under Sections -> Utilities or by using the Search function. Payment is simple and uses either PayPal or Amazon Payments directly in the Cydia app store. Once installed, Xpandr can be configured by tapping its icon on the home screen.

As we get closer to a possible next-generation iPhone announcement, more and more pictures off the "N94" iPhone prototype are being leaked. The N94 was originally believed to be the iPhone 4S or possibly the rumored 8GB iPhone Reuters mentioned last week. Engadget posted some new pictures of the mysterious device on Monday.

Why wait for iOS 5 to improve your Mail app when you can get these features now with a jailbroken iPhone? Anyone using a jailbroken iPad or iPod touch can also add these three packages from Cydia to their system for better mail. Each package adds more functionality and customization to the stock Mail application.

The first package we're going to discuss is Mail Enhancer. Sure it costs $4.99 but it adds an incredible amount of customization to Mail. To find Mail Enhancer use the search function in Cydia or look under Tweaks. The app can be purchased directly on Cydia using Amazon Payments or PayPal.

Steve Jobs has stepped down as Apple CEO and Tim Cook was named as his replacement. His abrupt resignation shocked Apple fans, but there is no reason to start digging Apple's grave yet. Cook has been handling day-to-day operations at Apple since Jobs took medical leave in January, and Jobs will remain with the company as Chairman of the Board and an "employee."

Jobs hasn't retired or dropped dead, and your iPhone or iPad isn't going to self-destruct. I'm not sure what the future has in store for Apple, but as long as Jobs has breath in his lungs, he's not going to allow it to derail. Jobs wrote in his resignation letter, "I look forward to watching and contributing to [Apple's] success in a new role." So don't start writing his obituary yet!

3G is better than 2G, and according to the latest Apple rumor T-Mobile iPhone users may be getting an upgrade in October. A T-Mobile employee told MacTrast that Apple is developing an iPhone that would operate at 3G speeds via T-Mobile USA's network.

In June, a T-Mobile spokesperson said they were carrying more than a million unlocked iPhones on their network. The unlocked devices are stuck using T-Mobile's EDGE network, and can't access T-Mobile's faster 3G or 4G speeds.
