As is typical with the iPhone rumor mill, things are starting to get out of control. Less than an hour ago, we brought you a recent piece of news/rumor that was spreading on the web which suggested that the iPhone jailbreak for 1.1.3 would be released either tonight or tomorrow. According to the "latest latest" rumors, this may now be false.

According to gadget blog MyiTablet, this news - which was picked up by a number of sites (including this one) - was little more than a prank. According to MyiTablet,

Truth is, these rumors are false. There is no v1.1.3 jailbreak being released soon. There really is no projected date on when a 1.1.3 jailbreak will be available, but the dev team is working hard on it.

The author indicates that the delays with the new jailbreak method are a result of the increasingly complex security in the 1.1.3 firmware, which requires applications to be run in restricted user mode. This increased security is reportedly making it more difficult for the dev teams to successfully jailbreak the iPhone in a manner which allows it to work with existing third party applications.

iPhone 1.1.3 Jailbreak Supposedly Coming Tonight or Tomorrow

The latest word regarding the 1.1.3 jailbreak, out of iPhoneAtlas, suggests that a version will be released to the public as early as tonight or tomorrow. Earlier this week, it was reported that an iPhone 1.1.3 jailbreak had been accomplished but would not be released. Amongst the reasons that the initial jailbreak would not be released was that the jailbreak was not completely software driven, and as such required hardware modification. While this news certainly didn't perk up the spirits of 1.1.3 adopters that were sorely missing their third party apps, the latest very well may.

It's been widely reported that a combination of efforts from the iPhone Dev Team and the Elite Team have led to a successfully jailbroken iPhone running 1.1.3. Third party applications were subsequently installed on the jailbroken iPhone and reportedly work fine. The video shown below demonstrates the jailbroken 1.1.3 iPhone with 3rd party applications. The video has been 'confirmed' to be legitimate by a variety of sources.

One of the new features added in the recently released iPhone firmware 1.1.3 (view a complete list of official feature additions in iPhone firmware 1.1.3) is WebClips, which allows iPhone or iPod touch users to create icons on their home screen which link directly to web sites. Some websites, like Google's mobile web applications and iPhoneFAQ.org (pictured above) will display a custom icon.

Though the WebClip icon for our humble site is, at present, pretty plain and straightforward - from our perspective it's still leaps and bounds better than
