Tapbots: Don't Panic! Twitter's New Rules Won't Tap Out Tweetbot

The makers of Tweetbot reassured their users that Twitter's new rules for developers won't affect Tweetbot for Mac or iOS devices.

Twitter made it harder for third party clients by announcing stricter guidelines about how the Twitter API is used. Paul Haddad broke down the API changes and what the mean to Tweetbot on the Tapbots blog.

Haddad said Twitter's required authentication on every API endpoint won't affect Tweetbot, and could possibly be helpful.

"The new rate limits that are part of the v1.1 API will likely end up being a good thing, instead of having a fixed block calls that can be made across the entire API the limits will be based on specific actions. We actually expect this to minimize the chances of being stuck in 'Twitter Jail'."

Original iPhone to be Completely Useless in 2017

Old iPhone lovers, your vintage smartphone circa 2007 will be limited to Wi-Fi only in less than five years. AT&T Mobility plans to take the 2G (EDGE) data network offline by January 1, 2017 which will leave original iPhone users without a cellular data connection.

AT&T ditching EDGE network

Currently 12 percent of AT&T customers with data contracts have devices limited to EDGE, which amounts to 8.4 million subscribers. Before panic sets in, AT&T has explained they will help customers transition to more modern devices ahead of the switch. The company needs as much spectrum as possible to support newer, faster networks including 3G and LTE.

Major SMS Security Flaw Discovered on iPhone

Ever worry that someone is trying to spoof the origin of text messages on your iPhone? Well according to developer pod2g you should. Although the security flaw he cites is not capable of executing malicious code, it can be exploited to fake the origin of an SMS to an unsuspecting iPhone user.

SMS security hole iPhone

Pod2g is hoping Apple fixes the problem before the final release of iOS 6. If iOS dealt with incoming text message information properly, the message would display the reply-to (spoofed) phone number as well as the actual originating phone number. As currently configured, iOS only shows the reply-to number.
