How can I restore iPhone data from an iCloud backup?

How can I restore / sync an iPhone backup stored on iCloud?

Your iPhone data can be restored from iCloud when setting up a new device, or after erasing all data from a device using Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings.

You will be prompted by Setup Assistant by a new iPhone to set up as a new phone or restore from backup.

  1. Make sure your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi and plugged into the charger.
  2. When you reach the Apps & Data screen, select the option Restore from iCloud Backup.
  3. Enter your iCloud account (Apple ID) and password.
  4. Choose the recent backup you wish to restore to your iPhone.
  5. Enter any passwords required when prompted.

You will see a progress bar with time remaining as iCloud restores your data. When this is complete, iCloud will begin to download apps. You will see a progress bar under apps that are being downloaded. If you need a specific app first, tap its icon to move it ahead in the queue. To check if the restore is finished, navigate to Settings -> iCloud -> Storage & Backup.

iTunes Match users can download albums, playlists and songs from iCloud when the restore is finished.

If you have backed your iPhone in iTunes, you can use Backuptrans iPhone SMS Backup & Restore to recory messages from iTunes backup back to your iPhone. Try it.

Hi,
I did not back up my iPhone before reset. Is there any other way to get back my old messages? Those messages in inbox were of high importance.

Thnx,.

Wow. You're a fucking moron. Kill yourself.

Woah. Completely unnessicary.

You are right. There are many way which can be found on apple discussion.

Right! And there are some 3rd party software like Wondershare and FonePaw iPhone Data Recovery which are popular for iPhone and iPad users. You can recover files from iCloud and iTunes backup, and also recover deleted files from iPhone/iPad.

FonePaw waste my time and money. It can do nothing. At last, I find this on google.

Get over yourself, geek loser.

What's wrong with you ? Jeez!

Why would he back up his phone before a reset if he lost all his contacts? Now who's the fu*king moron.

WTF is wrong with you? If you dont know the answer just zip it!

Yes , try holding the home and lock button at the same time for 10 seconds , let go of the home button and continue holding the lock button for 10 seconds and let go then your phone should restart with all your stuff back on it.

Actually, iCloud downloader is the tool you need to get if you want to extract files from iCloud backup. Unlike iTunes, the restore will be done according to your own need. You are the one who decides which data to be restored: http://goo.gl/oZ6XzC

What if you get the "iPhone couldn't restore due to corruption"? That might be because of a difference in the iOS or simple because the previous backup process wasn't fully successful. Then I might recommend you to take a look at the http://goo.gl/1ki8G
Also I would love to see you picking up such a subject, how we can deal with corrupt backups. Cheers!

Good article. If you deleted notes, contacts, messages have not been backed up. You can recover them with this tool.

The process for restoring an iPad from an iCloud backup begins by wiping the iPad, which puts it into the same clean state it was when you first got it out of the box. But before you take this step, it is a good idea to make sure your iPad is being backed up to the iCloud.

I wish Apple would allow selective restore, so you could reset the phone and selectively restore apps. The only option is to restore the phone entirely, with all or no apps. I find resetting the phone after a while speeds it up no end, and I prefer to reset on major upgrades (iOS 8 > 9). Continually upgrading means you end up with cruft from iOS 4/5/6 on the latest iOS release. Plus you can't backup/restore the health data individually, so if you have a problem with your device that requires a reset, you lose all your health data. It's stupid. This requires a walk through?
Restore your phone, tap "Restore from iCloud backup," and follow the prompts.
Not rocket science.

i have a new iphone and backed it up from the 'back up from computer option' rather than 'backup from icloud' option.
i have not physically set up icloud however the information that loaded onto my phone is not the most recent so i assume it may be on icloud.
can anyone tell me more about this? i am hesitant to delete everything and try to back up from icloud in case it is empty?
would really appreciate help! thanks

Heres a question im sure most will consider dumb. Im currently using IPhone 4, with 11,730 pics, 29 albums, 80 contacts and 219 videoes. I have a icloud acct ive backed up to, now i got a samsung galaxy S III can i log into icloud on the samsung and restore backed up data to the galaxy and not lose my music, vids, pics, etc etc, or is icloud for iphone only? Either way is there a free, simple method to compleye this w/o attaching 2-4 to a emai st a time saving to draftsto prevent lising them?

how do i reinstate my stuff on to i tunes from icloud??

iTunes has a nasty habit of deleting the previous backup every time it does a backup. If you really have an old backup intact, there is a way to restore from it. I forget the procedure, but I'm sure you can Google it. It's a good idea to manually go into your backup directory and manually copy it over to a new name once in a while. That way iTunes won't touch it, and you can use it in an emergency such as yours.

Here's a website that describes how to do it:

Perfect. Easy instructions.
Thanks.

If you have the same requirement like me, you can also try to recover you photos by this software. In fact, as for me, I used Vibosoft iPhone data recovery too, it even supports to retrieve all your deleted files like SMS messages, notes, contacts, calendars and so on.
