Apple has released iOS 16.5, marking the fifth and final major update for iOS 16 before WWDC and the upcoming reveal of iOS 17 in June. Just as the company did with the previous iPhone software, Apple will continue to provide security updates and bug fixes for iOS 16 this summer and even after the release of iOS 17.

Unlike the iOS 16.4 release, which included many new features, iOS 16.5 provides incremental changes and some important security fixes. Here are the details from Apple's official release notes:

Apple has released an update to its music identification app Shazam that allows it to integrate with the Apple Music Classical app on the iPhone. The new feature means that users can now identify a piece of classical music using Shazam and open it directly in the Apple Music Classical app. The classical music app was launched in March and offers over five million classical songs, including popular recordings and rare tracks.

Apple's services business is reportedly closing in on one billion paid subscriptions, nearly double the number it had just three years ago, according to CEO Tim Cook. During the company's conference call to discuss its recent financial results for the second quarter, Cook revealed that Apple now has over 975 million active paid subscriptions across its platforms, with the services segment exhibiting steady growth in the second quarter. Services generated $20.9 billion in revenue, up from $19.8 billion in the first quarter.

Google has updated its security app for two-factor authentication to include the ability to sync passcodes across devices. Prior to this update the free Google Authenticator app lacked the capability for synchronization, meaning that users who lost their device also lost access to their two-factor authentication codes. However, Google announced on Monday that this limitation will no longer be an issue.
