WWDC Sparks iPhone 5 Phishing Scam

If you are a regular reader of iPhoneFAQ then you're probably too smart to fall for a phishing scam, but sometimes these things even fool the best of us.

iPhone 5 Trojan

Attackers are preying on the excitement surrounding the WWDC by trying to infect your Windows PC with a nasty Trojan. An e-mail from noreply@apple.com with the subject line, "Finally The amazing iPhone 5. Now available in black edition," promises a bigger and better iPhone 5 with QWERTY keyboard.

"Introducing the iPhone that lets you do more than ever. And do it amazingly faster. Launch and switch between applications quickly. Bigger display, transparent mode, better cloud integration. Shoot, edit, and share video like never before. Slimmer, faster and sleeker. Discover many more features that make iPhone 5G S the best iPhone yet"

Apple Patents New Infrared Anti-Piracy Technology

Apple is patenting technology that could help stop illegal pirating of musicals, concerts and movies. The new technology would allow movie theaters to use infrared beams to shut off iPhones being used to illegally bootleg. Similar to the same technology theaters use to send audio to individual hearing-aids for the hearing impaired.

Another way the technology could be used is to create free viral marketing. Take a concert for example, a band could surround the stage with infrared transmitters that watermark the videos or pictures you capture. If you decide to record the latest Black Eyed Peas performance, and share it on your YouTube page, the video would be stamped with Blackeyedpeas.com.

IR Beams

The tech is more than just a Big Brother device, the same IR beams could be used to enhance some experiences by transmitting information to your iPhone about certain items; like information about a sculpture or painting at a museum.

iPhone 5 Announcement Highly Unlikely at WWDC

In an press release Apple revealed it will kick off the annual Worldwide Developers Conference with a keynote address on Monday (June 6) by unveiling Lion, the newest version of Apple's OS X operating system, as well as their still not fully understood online service, iCloud.

"At the keynote, Apple will unveil its next generation software - Lion, the eighth major release of Mac OS X; iOS 5, the next version of Apple’s advanced mobile operating system which powers the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch; and iCloud, Apple’s upcoming cloud services offering."

Previous rumors have suggested that Apple had plans for a surprise iPhone 5 announcement at the WWDC, but the May 31 Apple press release mentions nothing about introducing any hardware.

Lion OS X

Even though Apple has made their intentions clear, some blogs are still pushing iPhone 5 rumors.
Like one blog claiming AT&T running out of the iPhone 4 is a sign that the iPhone 5 is right around the corner. Cult of Mac noted later that the black iPhone 4 is now back in stock on the AT&T website.

CNET and several other sites have posted first looks at the logos for iCloud and iOS 5 being displayed inside the lobby of San Francisco's Moscone Center.

Kick to Pick App Helps Name Unborn Babies

With a little help from their parents unborn children can now choose their own names by using the Kick to Pick app. This is how it works:

You simply create a list of your favorite baby names by selecting from thousands of potential choices, place your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad over the mother's stomach, activate the countdown switch, and watch as your baby kicks to pick its name.

You can either choose to accept the suggestion or ignore it and make the baby pick again. I guess it's never too early for your child to learn that you don't always get what you want in life, but you will only have yourself to blame if he or she comes out of the womb a little PO'd.

Kick the Pick founder Nathan Parks said the idea came from a discussion about baby choices, and how they have no say in their own names. "What started out as a light-hearted chat soon turned into a series of app ideas," Parks said. "We're delighted with the finished product we've designed. It's light-hearted, good fun and a great way to involve the whole family in what is a key milestone of a child's life."
