Texts that I send to some people show in green bubbles while others show in blue ones. What's the difference?
You may have noticed that some of your iPhone text messages have either a blue or green background.
A blue background means that the message exchange is happening via iMessage with another iOS device (an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Mac, etc). These messages are sent through your cellular provider's data network or via WiFi (no cell service needed), and text message rates don't apply
A green background means that the message is being exchanged with a non-iOS device (Android, Windows phone and so on) and was delivered via SMS through your mobile provider. Messages can only be exchanged with these recipients when you have cell service.A green background can also mean that a text message sent from an iOS device could not be sent via iMessage for some reason. It will instead be sent as an SMS.

If all your messages are green, it could mean that iMessage has been disabled on your device Navigate to Settings > Messages and enable iMessage.

This explanation is not quite correct. The coloured background indicates the type of device you are sending TO, not where the message is coming FROM.

Yes, I just went from a 4s to a 5s and some of my iPhone contacts are now green and some are blue. The only thing done was transferring from the old phone to the new phone.

that's not correct either. I'm an iphone user, so is the receiver, and I sent texts that had blue background this morning, and texts I'm sending now, are in green, to the same receiver!

When the iPhone you just sent TO has NO INTERNET connection the color is GREEN.
When it goes via INTERNET (Wi-Fi or Cellular DATA) using iMessage the color is BLUE.
IF iMessage is turned OFF, it’s GREEN.

If imessage sends as blue then changes to green after a couple of minutes (and you never get a reply) then you’ve been blocked. I’ve tested it with a friend

My lady and I are on the same iPhone account. We both have a iPhone 7plus. I found out that if she blocks my message to her iphone. On my iPhone the words will be green. If she isn't blocking my iPhone, my text messages to her are blue.
