How do I transfer purchases from my iPhone to a computer / iTunes?
Content you've purchased or installed for free from the App Store and iTunes on your iPhone might not be transferred automatically to the iTunes library on your computer. To make sure all of your media and apps are properly backed up, you can transfer purchases manually before backing up and syncing your iPhone. To transfer purchases to your computer follow these steps:
1. Connect your iPhone to the computer and open iTunes.
2. Make sure that iTunes is authorized and you are logged into your account. From the top menu choose Store -> Sign In. To authorize the computer for use with your account select Store -> Authorize This Computer.
3. From the left menu under DEVICES right-click on the name of your iPhone (Windows) or Control-click (Mac) to display the shortcut menu.
4. Choose the Transfer Purchases from iPhone option.
ITunes will copy all purchased music, apps and other content to the computer.

For non-purchased content I used a program called TouchCopy, worked great! It's a free demo download here...

You need to connect the device and go to File>Transfer Purchases in iTunes. You'll find more information in this article on how to transfer them to the computer: iTunes

where the hell is the file button?! Since iTunes has been updated I don't have a file button

I had this question too, until I tried the ALT button to bring up the menu, Files is one item. Click on the line under 'F' in 'File' to see the drop-down menu. Choose 'Devices' and then 'Transfer Purchase from ...". The bar at the top of iTunes will then show 'Transferring Purchases ...' and counts the apps as they are transferred so you can see where you are in the transfer.

Yes, iTunes is common tool iPhone users can use to get purchases from iPhone to computer, but not for non-purchased items, such as some CD songs you synced from another computer. Apple doesn't provide some methods to do this in a better way. And if you are trying to get non-purchased items to computer, you can try some tool such as AnyTrans: http://www.imobie.com/anytrans/

Simplest way is to use Migration Assistant on your computer to copy your old computer account to the new computer.
Everything will be copied over and your iPhone will sync same as it did.

Personally, there are many ways to transfer purchases from iPhone to computer / iTunes, but I really think high of iPhone Transfer and I believe that it is a good choice for you. Of course, you can achieve it by connect your iPhone devices to PC via USB cable and copy purchases you like to PC/iTunes directly.

If you purchased items from the iTunes Store and the only place you have them stored is on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod, you can transfer them to any computer that is authorized for your iTunes Store account. This feature adds an extra layer of protection against losing your valued purchases.
According the the iTunes wifi store website (http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/wifistore.html):
If you want to transfer iTunes Store purchases from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer, be sure to authorize the computer before connecting the device. To authorize, follow these steps:
1. Open iTunes.
2. From the Store menu, choose Authorize Computer.
3. In the dialog that appears, the Apple ID button is selected by default. If you have an AOL account, select AOL.
4. Enter your Apple ID or AOL screen name and password, and then click the Authorize button.
If the iTunes Store purchases on your device were purchased with multiple accounts, you will need to authorize the computer for each one.

Amazing blog! Do you have any tips and hints for aspiring writers?
I'm planning to start my own blog soon but I'm a little lost on everything.
Would you recommend starting with a free
platform like Wordpress or go for a paid option? There are so many
choices out there that I'm completely overwhelmed .. Any recommendations?
Thank you!

I have done all of the above. My computer is authorized. However, I still cannot transferitems purhased from on my iPhone 5 to my iTunes library. Really frustrating.

I am having the same problem transferring songs from my iPod to my new laptop. I have tried transferring from my old computer, too, but about 100 songs just will not transfer. It is very frustrating. I have finally obtained a tech support phone number from the Apple site (this in itself was frustrating), so I'll be calling soon and will post the results.
