$100 Price Drop Coming for iPhone and iPod Touch?

According to 9to5mac, a well respected Apple-related rumor source with a good track record, a $100 price drop is coming for both the iPhone and iPod Touch sometime within the next month or two. 9to5mac says they have received a tip that the price cut might happen at the enigmatic late Febuary Apple event we're all still awaiting details on.

Their source has indicated that the price drop will be similar to last year's large iPhone price drop in that the lower

model (8GB) iPod Touch will be discontinued. Although their tipster did not indicate that the 8GB iPhone would be phased out, they are predicting it will be as well.

The move by Apple would result in a $399 16GB iPhone, a $299 16GB iPod Touch and a $399 32GB iPhone Touch.

Should the rumor be well grounded, and the cuts actually on their way, the move is likely in keeping with ongoing efforts by Apple to keep iPhone and iPod Touch sales strong throughout the early part of 2008. Apple's stock (AAPL), has fallen dramatically since its late 2007 $200+ high, some say due to a poor iPod sales forecast was released a few weeks ago.
