No more calling or driving around to the Apple stores in your area to hunt down an iPhone 3GS. After over a million units of Apple's latest model have already sold, the company has released an online tool so interested buyers can check current inventory themselves.
The latest version of Apple's online inventory tool should be updated hourly, which is an improvement over tools released for earlier iPhone models. The company previously updated in-store inventories of iPhone and iPhone 3G units only once daily.
Believe it or not, the answer is equal parts simple and agonizing. AT&T has stated they will support MMS on the iPhone 3G S at some point during the summer of 2009, after the June 19th release date.
According to reports, the company must first manually replace the "opt out MMS code" on every iPhone user account to allow MMS. New activations are subject to the same procedure, as accounts will initially include the "opt out MMS code" to lock out multimedia message service.
No more waiting in line. The iPhone 3G S is now available for pre-order online ahead of the June 19th release date. Apple and AT&T have indicated pre-orders will be delivered on June 19th (yes, delivered, not shipped).
For new subscribers to AT&T and qualifying customers, the 16GB model is priced at $199 and the 32GB iPhone 3G S is $299. Purchase requires a two-year service contract and an iPhone data plan. Owners of earlier model iPhones and other AT&T customers can check their upgrade status before purchasing the iPhone 3G S.
