Apple Announces Low Cost iPhone 5c Starting at $99

It looks like the rumor mill was correct in predicting that Apple would announce the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s at its press event today in Cupertino, California. This is the first time Apple has announced two new iPhone models at the same time.

iPhone 5c

The iPhone 5s is the successor to the iPhone 5, while the iPhone 5c is a lower-cost plastic model for budget minded consumers. The iPhone 5c will be available in lime green, white, yellow, red and blue starting at $99 on contract for the 16GB model, and $199 for the 32GB model. It is powered by the same A6 processor as the iPhone 5, and features a 4-inch Retina display.

Apple Announces iOS 7 Release Date

No more rumors! Apple has officially announced that iOS 7 will be available for all compatible iOS devices on September 18th. The overhauled OS will support the iPhone 4 or later, iPad 2 or later, iPad mini or fifth-generation iPod touch. Like all previous iOS releases, iOS 7 will be a free download.

iOS 7

Don't forget, there is no going back to iOS 6 once you download iOS 7. The new OS will radically change the look and feel of your iPhone or iPad once it is installed (You can see examples of the redesigned iOS 7 icons here). iOS 7 also brings plenty of new services like iTunes Radio, and retools other popular features such as notifications and Siri.

"Downloading iOS 7 is like getting an all new phone that you already know how to use," explained Craig Federighi at the Apple press event in Cupertino, California.

Patent Leak Points to iPhone 5S Fingerprint Sensor

A European patent surfacing on none other than Patently Apple gives a detailed sneak peak at what could be a major part of tomorrow's iPhone 5S announcement. iPhone 5S home button patent

Glimpses of the new home button can be seen on leaked iPhone 5S packaging, showing a silver ring around the home button on the black front bezel. The device would automatically scan the user's fingerprint using capacitive touch technology, which analysts predict will be housed under a sapphire lens. Fingerprint scanning and NFC would be facilitated by redesigned internal parts, including a home button ribbon with integrated chip.

iPhone 5C Rumor Roundup: Everything We Think We Know

The iPhone 5C has made numerous appearances since its initial leak, and it seems almost set in stone that Apple will unveil the new handset on Tuesday, September 10th.
