New iPhone 3.0 Specifications Leaked

New information has leaked regarding iPhone 3.0, allegedly from a member of Apple's hardware development team. Along with a list of features and specs, the source indicated that July 17th will be the release date for the new iPhone.

The list of features below, should it be correct, would be impressive. We've heard rumors of an OLED screen before, however this doesn't make the prospect any less interesting. This design upgrade alone would dramatically improve battery life.

Apple May Offer iPhone Background App Support

Wouldn't it be great if every time you jumped to the iPhone home screen Pandora kept streaming music? The only application that Apple currently allows to run in the background is the iPod, however if recent reports are correct, this could all change.

Pandora is just one example of how useful allowing apps to run in the background could be. Another likely use would be keeping an instant messaging chat connected. Rumors have been swirling about just how Apple would implement background processing considering the limited resources of iPhone hardware.

Can I Jailbreak iPhone OS 3.0?

iPhone Dev-Team has reported that Apple's iPhone OS 3.0 beta 5 has been jailbroken. In fact, unless changes to iPhone hardware are made in the next generation device, the Dev-Team reports that the jailbreak will work on all existing iPhones and iPod Touches.

Jailbreak apps such as Cycorder and Qik do not currently work using iPhone OS 3.0, and more beta releases are on the way. As a result, the iPhone Dev-Team plans to wait until a final release from Apple before releasing a new PwnageTool and QuickPwn.

AT&T Considers Drop in iPhone 3.0 Plan Pricing

In a move to preserve the exclusive relationship with Apple and increase iPhone sales, AT&T may be considering changes to iPhone data plan pricing with the introduction of the next generation device. A typical two-year contract would see a price decrease of $10 per month, bringing the cost back to what original iPhone users signed up for in 2007.

Market research has shown that the high monthly cost associated with iPhone contracts may steer some users away from purchasing the device. The minimum cost over the required two-year contract amounts to over $1700 not including text messaging, taxes and fees.

Even More iPhone 3.0 Features Leaked

The list just keeps getting longer. Soon we're going to expect iPhones to finish up the laundry and walk the dog. More details have leaked about the extensive capabilities being developed for the next generation iPhone. Of course, hardware improvements are going to work hand-in-hand with the new OS.

Apple recently ordered 100 million 8GB flash chips, twice the number they ordered last year. Video recording is the perfect way to fill up 32GB of memory on your iPhone 3.0. Not only this, but Apple has ordered both 3.2 and 5 megapixel cameras. The iPhone camera will definitely see an upgrade, but there is even speculation that a front-facing camera could be added to the next iPhone.

Quantum Leap: iPhone 3.0 Hardware

With all the buzz surrounding iPhone OS 3.0, it's easy to forget the incredible potential of next-generation mobile hardware coming our way this summer. When it comes to the insides of Apple's iPhone 3.0, there are plenty of upgrades in the works.

One only has to look at the deals Apple has already made with its partners in the hardware manufacturing business to picture the next device. In one of the most dramatic and exciting developments, LG has made a multibillion dollar deal with Apple to supply the company with OLED displays.

Even More iPhone 3.0 Features on the Horizon

With the initial excitement of Apple's iPhone 3.0 preview already passed, users of the iPhone OS 3.0 Beta have been finding several new features that appear to be in the works for a next generation device. One such feature is video recording, which reports have indicated would come along with an upgraded camera and possibly a multi-core GPU (graphics processing unit).

Backing up the claim are screenshots from the MobileMe upload screen in iPhone OS 3.0 that say "Publish Video" at the top of the app. Of course, a better camera would mean higher-resolution still photos, too. Other features that look interesting have also appeared in leaked screenshots of iPhone OS 3.0 Beta.

AT&T to Offer No-Contract iPhone 3G

AT&T has confirmed it will start selling un-subsidized iPhone 3G hardware without a contract, only months before the release of iPhone 3.0. Both the 8GB and 16GB models will be available at full price, $599 and $699 respectively.

Pre-paid service will not be an option, as activation of no-contract phones will require an iPhone data plan, costing $30 monthly. Unfortunately for those interested in using the device with a different carrier, even the full price iPhone 3G hardware will still be locked to AT&T.
