Where are iPhone firmware files stored on my computer?
Apple doesn't go out of it's way to tell you where iTunes stores the firmware files it downloads before it updates your iPhone. Should you ever need to access these files, it helps to know where to find them.
Firmware files have an .ipsw extension and can be found at the following locations:
On Windows XP :
Documents and Settings\<User>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
On Mac:
~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates

Would itunes detect the latest firmware if i download the firmware manually (through some download manager) and put it on the given location.
( Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates ).
Your help is appreciated.

Yes it would. I've just probe it. Good luck! Gonzalo

There is no need to put it there - you could just click 'Update' with alt button pressed - and iTunes will allow you to choose firmware (*.ispw file) explicitly

Hi, I think your blog might be having browser compatibility issues.
When I look at your blog site in Ie, it looks fine but when opening in Internet
Explorer, it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a
quick heads up! Other then that, amazing blog!

of course like your web site but you have to check the spelling on quite
a few of your posts. Several of them are rife with spelling
problems and I find it very bothersome to tell the reality then again I will definitely come again again.

I guess your on Vista or Win 7, try Users instead of Documents and Settings.

For Win 7: (Make Sure You can SEE ALL HIDDEN Folders from the Menu Bar and TOOLs - Thats the ONLY way to see AppData folder)
C:\Users\( The name of the main profile)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
Example: If It's Joe PC
C:\Users\Joe\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
