iOS App(s) of the Week: Thanksgiving hangover

Plantera

There are a lot of great reasons to love Thanksgiving, but it can also mean being stuck in a lot of crappy situations over the weekend. Luckily, long holidays at the in-laws, or being stuck at the airport, are a lot easier to deal with if you have a mobile device with the right apps installed. Here are 5 iOS apps to help you get through the holiday weekend.

iOS App of the Week: ROME: Total War

Rome: Total War iOS

The hit strategy game ROME: Total War is now available on the App Store for the iPad. Total War was originally released as a PC title in 2004 by Creative Assembly before the game rights were passed to Sega. The game was eventually released for Mac OS X in 2010 by Feral Interactive, and it is now available for iOS.

Total War is set during the rule of the late Roman Republic and early Roman Empire. The object of the game is to balance economic, civil, religious and military power while trying to capture 50 provinces, win over the citizens and eventually overthrow Rome.

iOS App of the Week: Hype - Interactive Live Video

Hype

The king of live streaming apps, Periscope, is popular due to its simplicity. All it takes is around three taps for anyone with a smartphone to broadcast from anywhere in the world. Periscope doesn't require a lot of setup, there's no confusing settings, and users can easily interact with live streams. The simple controls, easy Twitter integration and current events, such as the election, have made Periscope one the most popular live streaming services available on the App Store. The original creators of Vine look to change that with their new live streaming app Hype.

Halloween App(s) of the Week: Dexter Slice and more

Dexter Slice

Developers really embraced Halloween this year by releasing a variety of new apps and app updates, but unfortunately two anticipated horror titles did not make it to the App Store in time for October 31st. As we mentioned last week, Scott Cawthon's Five Nights at Freddy's spin-off, Sister Location was delayed due to it being too mature, and the 80's inspired slasher puzzle game Slayaway Camp is still waiting for its App Store debut. The good news is that both games are currently available on other platforms. Cawthon is releasing an unofficial mature version of Sister Location in chapters to Game Jolt, and Slayaway Camp is currently available on Steam.

Halloween App(s) of the Week: Five Nights at Freddy's Sister Location 'mature' version and more

Puzzlepops! Trick or Treat

We previously reported that Five Nights at Freddy's developer, Scott Cawthon, decided to delay the release to his spin-off Sister Location due to the game being too mature. After receiving too much criticism for not releasing the game in time for Halloween, Cawthon decided to release a "mature" version in "sections."

The mature version is not officially part of the Five Nights canon, and it is not recommended to fans of the series who enjoy following the story of the franchise.
