How can I block incoming calls on my iPhone?

How can I block incoming calls on my iPhone?

Many iPhone owners expect that incoming call blocking is a built-in feature of the iPhone. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Such a feature is controlled at the provider level.

UPDATE: Now there are even more options to block calls and texts from incoming numbers on your iPhone. See the complete list here.

Furthermore, most providers fail to offer call blocking to their customers. Providers that do often charge an exorbitant rate for this feature, such as AT&T in the US which offers a service called "Smart Limits" which includes call blocking but comes at a pricey $5 per month.

There are a couple solutions/workarounds that you can implement:

1) For those of you that are jailbroken, there is an app called iBlacklist that will allow you to filter incoming calls and SMS text messages. This is not a free app, but at it's current price of $12.00 (one-time purchase), it can pay for itself fairly quickly vs. pricey provider solutions.

2) Don't block calls, but silence them with a silent ringtone. This will still allow the calls to come through, but will silence the ring so you won't even notice. To set this up, download this iPhone silent ringtone (be sure to right-click or cmd-click and "Save As"), import it into iTunes, and sync it to your iPhone. On your iPhone, add the number you want to block/silence to your contacts and set the silent ringtone as that contact's custom ringtone.

Actually, there is something you can do about spam texts if you are an AT&T subscriber. I've heard that this also works for US carriers Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile, but haven't seen it for myself. When you receive a spam text, forward it to "7726" (SPAM). You will receive an automated response from AT&T prompting you to send AT&T the ten digit number from which the offending text came. You will not be charged for receipt of any texts reported in this manner. The number of spam texts I receive has dropped virtually none since I stated doing this. Thanks, AT&T.

Iblacklist doesn't work and is a complete scam, it juust gives you a blank screen

Agreed it is a scam and this website should be checking out its referrals before giving them..

It;s not AT&T it is the POS iPhone that doesn't allow call blocking. I have 3 other phones that I can block calls on and I have ATT. I would never intentionally purchase an iPhone, so many better phones out there.

I hate that iPhone doesn't have this app. I'm pregnant and split with my partner who is now seeing someone else. I'm happy for him but don't want to see his missed calls and messages. It breaks my heart and tears me up inside everytime he calls. I just want to block him till I can move on and my phone provider doesnt support blocking. How do I jailbreak my iPhone 4s? I really can't handle him calling atm and he calls every day so I won't let him go.

just download Youmail for Iphone; its free and now allows you to block numbers and you can choose what msg htey hear (disconnected line msg, etc etc).

:( I'm so sorry to hear about your painful situation. You are a woman, beautiful and precious to this world. I am going through a similar situation myself. It hurts so much but also is so comforting when she calls. I am trying to block her number from my iphone. It's going to get better over time as long as you can find good friends to lean on when you get weak and always do what's best for yourself. I hope you find happiness with your life. :)

FYI - iBLacklist is one-tme $12.00, but only for the same phone. When you upgrade to a new phone, you pay again, $6.00. If they even give you the time of day.

I agree.. I want my iPhone to answer then hang up on blocked calls. By doing this my phone will never ring/vibrate and/or leave a message. I bought CALL CONTROL years ago (1x fee) on my BB now i use it on my Droid.
Call Control does exactly that.. answers then hangs up on blocked numbers. My BB/Droid were both on ATT so i know it has nothing to do with ATT. It's Apple.

BTW.. I only know about Blocked calls as they do still appear in recent calls. That's ok because I just don't want the phone to ring and/or give these blocked callers to the opportunity to leave a message.

Hi all :) I can unlock any AT&T iphones (i do other carriers also, please check with me for the price ...) with in 24 hours regardless of Baseband/iOS for very good price ..., for more info, please mail me on unlockqatar@gmail.com or Visit my FaceBook with same email address (just search in FB with above email address)

Thanks :)

-i can not open my iphone ITS DISABLEi for got my passcode all i can do is make emergency calls

Regards to Iblacklist: I have downloaded the Iblacklist and it is bogus...there is nothing on the app so please dont buy and waste your hard earned dollars

There is an iBlackList in the APP Store. IT IS BOGUS

In order to access iBlackList that works you must jailbreak your phone, use the Cydia App Store and download that version. There is a free version but it is limited. The full out version is a one-time charge of $12.00

I use 'Do not Disturb' feature. It helps a lot.

I have this feature on and set do not disturb at 00:00-23:59 with exception that only allow 'All Contact' to call.

So if anyone who is not in my contact list calls me, the phone will answer then hang up after 1-2 sec with silence....

I just create a name in my contacts list called "Spam" add any number to it which I don't want to answer (eg telemarketing numbers) and then don't answer those calls.

this is a terrible solution. i am looking to BLOCK a number from calling, which means i do not want to see that i have tons of missed calls from the person i am trying to block. find a better solution before giving people a horrible.

Hi! I have iphone 4, ios 4.... May concern is how do i download the old version of facebook without upgrading my iphone to version ios5? Lastweek i deleted my facebook for some reason....but now im trying to download again but unforetunately i cant able to download because now the facebook is upgraded already. Please somebody help me!

What the F***? It's ridic that you can't even block unwanted calls on an iPhone. Forget searching for and downloading apps, I'd rather just change my number! Sprint allows 3 times in 30 days but a few times a year is doable.

While it is true you cannot block a number without paying AT&T or you carrier for that service and many like myself do not wish to jailbreak their phones there is another more fun option. AT&T offer conditional call forwarding. I set mine to forward the call if I do not answer which means I can pick up the phone and talk to my friends/contacts whenever I want or pick up from a legitimate call if the caller I'd number is one I wish to chance, but here's the fun part. Call forward the call back to that annoying telemarketers number and melt down their phone exchange. The more they call the more their system is taxed and when enough people do this it collapses their system. If they don't get the hint rather quickly you can always forward it to a federal law enforcement agency who will quickly have words with them for you since its their number which will register as the offender.

some one said use do not disturbe mode what does this do and how can u set to certin numbers thanks I get brank calls here looked for a call block list for I phone 4S no darn luck I had number changed as well tones of times. Thanks

I have a unique situation regarding blocking calls. My brother is in the hospital after an organ transplant. While he's stable, he still has problems. The issue causing me to block incoming calls, is that confused and not in reality. He doesn't know where he is, what he's doing there, what time it is, or anything.. Its like he has Alzheimer's. He is able to talk and make sense on a very elementary level. He's in Intensive Care Unit in a hospital, and he's very, very bored. He has a business, which is (was) his whole life. Until he comes out of this fog, he most certainly can't work. BUT HE WANTS TO. He wants his phone to contact his vendors and customers. I'm currently running the business and if he had full use of his phone, it would be disastrous for his business. I plan going to put the family's numbers for him to call out, but I need to find out how to prevent incoming calls. We call the nurse's station if we need or want to contact him. So there's no need for him to received calls. Any ideas - he has 167 contacts. I saw where ATT charges $5 a month (is this per caller?) PS, he's been in the ICU for six weeks, and there's been no change. His prognosis is indeterminate and not uncommon for very few patients with like symptoms. He could be in ICU for six months or more, no one can tell. I want to give him a phone for him to have very limited contact with the outside world, no incoming calls. Any ideas? Any help would be most appreciated.....

There is a free app called Call Block for iPhone. works great.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/call-block/id721795292?ls=1&mt=8

That app is not free.

Hello, I really need help, I had to take away the iphone 5 from my 14 yo daughter as she is texting and calling some really unwanted (for me) friends of her, I would like to know if there is an app that would make the opposite than block, that is ALLOW ONLY CERTAIN NUMBERS INCOMING AND OUT GOING text msg and calls , so I would put only my number and her mom's, so i can give her phone back . I know already how to block all the other apps, so i have no problem with the rest , but I need her to have her phone when she goes to bike or gym etc...any help will be really appreciated

Not true
In iOS7 press the info button to the right on the call list scroll down and press on block this Caller. done and done.

Not sure how old this FAQ is, but you can block callers on your iPhone running iOS 7. Click on the "i" beside the phone number in your Recent Call list > Scroll to the Bottom > Choose "Block This Caller"

The guide above is not up to date. I was having this issue for the past 4 weeks and I found a guide here http://appshacks.net/block-calls-text-messages-and-facetime-on-iphone-ios-7-1/

This might help ? ( NOT SPAM )

If you have an IPhone 4s go to contacts select the person you are looking for, then scroll down and it says block this caller. FYI!!!!!!

i have imported iphone 4s from japan i am not getting block option in my cell please let me know its 6.0.1 version
