Apple has officially designated its original Apple Watch as obsolete. This decision coincides with the launch of the Apple Watch Series 9, and marks the first instance where the 38mm and 42mm first-generation Apple Watch models have been included in the obsolete category.

Apple now offers a variety of refurbished Apple Watch models at the Apple Store online. These special deals include discounts of 14 to 15 percent, with Series 1 prices starting at $229. Those looking for an Apple Watch Series 2 can get the stainless steel 42mm model for $509, for a savings of $90. As with some other Apple refurbished products, the inventory is limited when it comes to available colors, cases and band selection.

As expected, Apple launched a new version of the Apple Watch last week. While many rumors pointed to an Apple Watch 2, Apple made incremental improvements and dubbed the latest product Apple Watch Series 2. The company also surprised many fans by upgrading the processor in the original Apple Watch and continuing to sell this model at a $100 discount. While the two models are ever so slightly different on the outside, when it comes to size and weight they are virtually the same.
