The Flipboard iPhone App Is So Popular It Doesn't Work! (Updated)

Flipboard CEO Mike McCue said an iPhone Flipboard app was the number one request from iPad users. Too bad all 4.2 million of them decided to download the app on its first day, leaving newer non-iPad owners wondering what all the fuss is about.

The popular iPad app is so popular on the iPhone, that it crashed the Flipboard servers making it impossible to create a new account. New users are receiving an error message that reads: "Couldn't build your Flipboard. Please check your internet connection and try again."

Flipboard tweeted "Due to high demand, our service is currently down, we are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible."

Version 1.7 turns your "social-network posts, photos and videos into a magazine-like visual experience" on your iPhone. Well, according to USA Today it does. I have to take their word for it because like many users I can't get Flipboard to work on my iPhone 4S.

Apple iBooks App Gets Major Update

Apple's universal reader app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has just been updated to version 1.5. The new iBooks adds several new features including a nighttime reading theme to ease eye strain when reading in a dark room. Some studies have shown that viewing LCD screens before bedtime can keep some people from falling asleep quickly. Maybe the new iBooks will help.

Apple has also added several new fonts including Athelas, Charter, Iowa, and Seravek for your reading pleasure. For those who may have been irritated by the book-like graphics that take screen real estate away from the text, Apple has added a full-screen mode to remove distractions.

Siri on iPhone 4: Beware the H1Siri Jailbreak App

If installing full Siri functionality on the iPhone 4 sounds too good to be true, that's because it is. A new software package claiming to make Siri run on a jailbroken iPhone 4 has appeared on a repository that Cydia warns against. The package is called H1Siri, and there are a few reasons why you should stay away.

Not only does the repository containing H1Siri contain cracks and other illegal software, but the package itself comes from an unknown developer. Apparently a Chinese group dubbed CD-Dev Team is behind the Siri port, but the software illegally uses parts of Apple's copyrighted code.

Downgrade to iOS 5.0 With iFaith v1.4 [Jailbreak]

Apple isn't playing nice with the jailbreaking community and has recently started blocking devices from restoring to older firmware. If you accidently updated to 5.0.1 and want to restore your device, hacker iH8sn0w has a new solution for you. iFaith v1.4 allows you to save your iOS device’s SHSH blobs which should allow you to downgrade your device in the future.

Unfortunately it doesn't support A5 devices. Meaning if you recently purchased an iPhone 4S, or upgraded to iOS 5.0.1, you're still out of luck for now. A4 owners are being urged by the jailbreaking community to download the latest update of iFaith and to save their SHSH blobs immediately.

iPhone Battery Cases Recalled for Fire Safety Risk

Battery cases make great accessories for the iPhone and iPod touch. Not only do they protect the mobile device, but they increase the battery life, often doubling battery power and keeping the iPhone charged. There are always sporadic reports of lithium-ion batteries malfunctioning, which can involve excessive heat, fire or even explosions.

Lately two brands of iPhone battery cases have been recalled as problems with internal parts have been discovered. To avoid risks of overheating and possible fire, use of these cases should be discontinued immediately. The first recall involves the Rocketfish RF-KL12, designed for the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS.
