Apple launches 'Music Memos' app for users to capture song ideas

Music Memos

Apple today launched Music Memos -- a new iOS app that allows users to " tap into their musical potential and create incredible music no matter where they are.” The app is basically an easy way for musicians to record music using their device's built-in microphone whenever a musical idea hits them. Users can quickly record high-quality, uncompressed audio with a simple tap, and use the app to sync their songs to a virtual drummer and bass player to get an idea on how it sounds with a full band. The app also works with external microphones and musical instruments, such as an acoustic guitar and piano.

Once a song is recorded the app will automatically analyze the music and suggest musical measures and chord names. Users can then tweak their song by trimming it, adjusting the virtual drum or bass, and sharing it through Apple Music Connect and email for further collaboration.

The app makes keeping track of all your musical ideas easier by offering a tagging system so you can search for songs by keywords later, or by offering a 5 star rating system so you can mark your favorites.

Other Music Memos features include a built-in instrument tuner and the ability to keep notes on song changes, lyrics and so on. The app also includes iCloud, GarageBand, Soundcloud and YouTube support.

You can learn more about Music Memos on the official Apple.com support page. The app is available for free on the Apple App Store. It supports the iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 9.1 or later, third-generation iPad or newer, iPad mini 2, 3 and 4 and iPad Pro.
