BigBoss Warns Against Fake iPhone 3.1.3 Jailbreaks

Fake jailbreaking tools are cropping up on the web and unsuspecting iPhone owners can easily be fooled into thinking they are downloading the real thing. The BigBoss repository is now warning against two programs that have hit the web, Thunderst0rm and TurboSn0w2. This software is fake and will not jailbreak your iPhone running 3.1.3 firmware.

In fact, this software will not jailbreak anything. iPhone hacking website modmyi has proven just how useless these two programs really are. There was speculation they might install spyware but it seems they are just annoying fakes.

There are two legit exploits for iPhone OS 3.1.3. One is being developed by Geohot and is called limera1n. The other was named Spirit by its developer Comex. These are expected to come out soon, or might not even be launched until after iPhone OS 4.0 is publicly available. They are also likely to work as an iPad jailbreak. The two developers are working together to maximize the impact of the exploits and delay any patch by Apple.

From BigBoss:

Thunderst0rm is “supposed” to be an untethered jailbreak for 3.1.3. It was released today and is available for download. Thunderst0rm is fake. Do not download or run it. We aren’t sure what all it does, but it does not jailbreak your device. Furthermore, it may install some spyware or something. It should be avoided. Rumors say it deletes several files from iTunes meaning you would possibly have to reinstall iTunes after running it.

Another one called TurboSn0w2 is also fake.

As always, beware any jailbreak solutions that cost money. The real iPhone jailbreak community of developers never charge for their work. The iPhone Dev-Team recently issued a jailbreak warning of their own, citing scammers with fake software online.

Apple has also acknowledged jailbreaking for the first time in a support article. Of course the company had a different kind of warning, stating that "unauthorized modification of iPhone OS has been a major source of instability, disruption of services, and other issues."

What the heck is "jailbreaking?"

It's when you get to pass "Go" and collect $200.
Or it is the ability to download applications for the iphone other than those at the App Store.
