It's now or never for the iOS 9.3.3 jailbreak

Pangu iOS 9.3.3

Anyone looking to update their iOS device to iOS 9.3.3 and jailbreak had better get moving. The window to update will close as soon as Apple stops signing the iOS 9.3.3 firmware. According to IPSW Downloads, Apple is still signing this IPSW file on 64-bit devices. This means the Pangu jailbreak can still be installed.

What's the rush?

Apple has already updated iOS to version 9.3.4 for the iPhone 4s and later. The official Apple Support Document describing the security content of iOS 9.3.4 gives "Team Pangu" credit for finding the issue, known as CVE-2016-4654. In other words, iOS 9.3.4 stops the latest Pangu jailbreak tool from doing its thing.

It's a matter of time until Apple stops signing older firmware, which in this case includes iOS 9.3.3 and iOS 9.3.2. Restoring to either of these IPSW files will become impossible once Apple flips the switch. After this happens, the only non-beta iOS version that will be available for installation will be iOS 9.3.4.

How do I update?

If your iPhone or iPad is not running iOS 9.3.3, do not update to the latest version of iOS when asked by iTunes! Do not update OTA directly on your device! This will install iOS 9.3.4, which cannot be jailbroken.

iOS 9.3.3 must be installed manually using iTunes, by restoring to the IPSW file saved to your computer.

How do I jailbreak?

Once the device has iOS 9.3.3 installed, use the Pangu jailbreak tool to install the jailbreak app store Cydia. Note that only 64-bit devices can be jailbroken. This means that iPhone 4s and iPhone 5 owners are out of luck. If your 32-bit device is already jailbroken on iOS 9.0.2 then stay put. Otherwise, the jailbreak will be lost and you will return to a stock device.

How long do I have?

There's no telling when Apple will stop signing iOS 9.3.2 and iOS 9.3.3. It could happen tomorrow, or the signing window might stay open for another week or two. Ultimately, if you are at all interested in jailbreaking iOS 9.3.3 the time is now.
