Apple Announces Improved iPhone Battery with 8 Hours of Talk Time

iphone2.jpgIn a press release issued today out of Cupertino, Apple announced an improved iPhone battery as compared to their preliminary announcements. The new battery, according to Apple, provides 250 hours standby time (10+ days), 24 hours of music playback, 8 hours of talk time, 7 hours of video playback, and 6 hours of internet use.

Steve Jobs was quoted as saying "“with 8 hours of talk time, and 24 hours of audio playback, iPhone’s battery life is longer than any other ‘Smartphone’ and even longer than most MP3 players.” The press release also included a table comparing the iPhone's battery to that of other popular smartphones on the market (found below).

In addition to the improved battery, Apple announced that they have upgraded the iPhone's touch screen surface from plastic to optical quality glass. The new surface achieves a superior level of scratch resistance and optical clarity, according to Apple.

These announcements about the iPhone, in addition to quieting lingering concerns about the iPhone's battery life, should help to fuel the mounting craze around the device, scheduled to be released on Friday, June 29th at 6pm local time.

6 hours video is very VERY nice. I hope it's true.

My god. This is such an improvement over my last two smartphones (Treo and Blackjack).

Agreed, I have the Blackjack also - and it doesn't even get near it's listed specs once 3G starts sapping battery life.

Not sure why Apple's chart lists the N95 as not having WiFi. Last I checked, it did.
