How do I fix iPhone Wi-Fi connection problems?

Some users have reported issues with slow speeds or trouble connecting to Wi-Fi networks with iPhone OS 3.0 and later firmware. iPhone owners who have jailbroken and/or unlocked their iPhones using blackra1n and blacksn0w have also reported problems.

These problems include the inability to connect to Wi-Fi, 3G and/or Edge, lack of push notifications and issues with the YouTube application. Fortunately there are several fixes you can try to correct these data issues on your iPhone:

1. Reset network settings. Touch Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings.

2. Still having problems? Touch Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings. Warning: You will lose all of your preferences.

3. For YouTube problems on jailbroken iPhones try installing youtubeFix from Cydia or another package installer.

4. Restore your iPhone as a new phone. This is a slow and tedious process but will reset your iPhone as if it was new from the factory. Although this should fix all of the above issues, you will have to reload your contacts and media onto the iPhone from the computer manually. To restore:

- Connect your iPhone to the computer.
- Run iTunes.
- Under the Summary tab select Restore.
- Select backup if you wish. When restoring as a new iPhone you will not use the backup.
- When the process is complete the iPhone will restart.
- When the Set Up You iPhone screen appears select Set up as a new iPhone.

Of course, after restoring a jailbroken iPhone you will lose the jailbreak and unlock functionality.

iPHONE 5 UPDATE: There are limited circumstances where iPhone 5 users are experiencing slow speeds or intermittent service when connected to Wi-Fi. There are two fixes that might help.

1. Entering manual DNS settings has been reported to help. Navigate to Settings -> Wi-Fi and touch the blue arrow next to your connected Wi-Fi network. Touch DNS and enter Google's DNS server address (either 8.8.4.4 or 8.8.8.8).

2. Router compatibility issues could mean that WPA2 Personal W-Fi security is causing the problem. Switching to WEP security or removing password security altogether can improve Wi-Fi speeds and connectivity.

iPHONE 6 / iOS 8 UPDATE: Click here for more information on Wi-Fi performance issues in iOS 8. A jailbreak tweak is available to disable AWDL/AirDrop and resolve Wi-Fi problems.

My Iphone was connecting on any WI-FI but mine at home...i was getting really pissed....

Called apple care, my internet provider, telus and My routeur tech support...

The things is that all mac products have an IP that your routeur need to see or the connection will never happen... I Have and old LINKSYS CISCO Routeur...I went in wireless security and into mac filter thumbnail and added the IP from my 4S saved setting...and problem solved

it all didnt worked, at first i only lost my wifi connection after jailbreaking with redsn0w... after connecting to itunes, had it restored and all of my connections were off... wifi,bluetooth... i guess the best way to fix everything is to throw my annoying phone away =.="

All is corect but there is no personal hotspot in settin in my 5s if someone help me

correct*

You can access to persona hotspot by entering cellular settings, here when u will turn on data then go back and turn on bluetooth. Come back to cellular settings and see there will b personal hotspot option

Real neat and simple way that does the trick. I was at the verge of having my phone's wifi soldered. Good thing I came across this very simple fix. :)

Finally success! Two days after trying everything, even made appt at Apple store for later today. What worked - Settings//general/reset/reset network settings. You don't lose anything except problems with wi-fi. It has been working for 10 hours without any problems. Pass this on - it works!

i faced the similar issue and google it.... i was thinking that i am the only one having problem in iPhone 5. But after reading couple of articles this one and another from here:
http://www.iphonbuzz.com/wi-fi-problems-reported-on-some-iphone-5-devices.html
took a sigh of relief that i am not alone facing the problem... and the good thing is Apple care is working to fix the problem.

I simply unplugged the back of the moden for a few seconds plugged back in and my wifi immediately showed back up checked off as being used...very simple...first try, first luck! YAy

Reset worked for me

3gs 5.1.1 jailbroken.

Just had to re-enter network password

I have an iphone 4 and updated it to the ios6. I accidently used my dads email and he got mad and told me to use mine. When i tried putting my email on i started getting my dads texts. So i reset my phone and now my wifi wont connect with my phone. How do i get it to connect again because the password isnt working.

Thank you so much!
Step one helped i just needed to reset the network connections. My phone is working properly and everything is syncing now! I couldnt figure out why it wasnt working before, Thank you again!:)

I am certain that there is nothing wrong with my 3G. I have a MacBook Pro and I can create a network which basically makes the phone think it sees a wifi. The phone will connect to it every time.
The kicker is that the MacBook will allow me to share my ethernet connection through my wifi, basically sharing the internet that I have at the ethernet port. When I share the internet the phone disconnects from the network and will not reconnect until I stop sharing the internet.
I think that there is something in the OS that rejects the internet......just my thoughts.

My problem is completely different from below stated problems. I have an iphone4. It required an update and I updated, after that when I go to wifi to see available connections, it doesnt show any connections, even its not letting me to turn on my wifi, ITS OFF AND I CANT TURN ON. WTF!
After that fucking update it crashed, and wont even turn on,and below it says "Location accuracy is improved when Wifi is turned on. WTF AGAIN! How can I turn it on if its not giving me that option, its frost. So I dont have internet and I cant download anything to fix, I tried that reset and didnt work
So anyone please HELP I will be very glad
I commented using my relative's iphone.

not only one i'm same trying for 2 weeks see what going on with my WiFi on mt mobile wont turn on....

You need to connect your phone to your PC, and reset via your itunes account. Put your phone into DFU mode and reset all setting via your itunes account. Basically its a reset up of the whole phone, and yes you will lose everything your havent previously synced to itunes. It sounds like you only got a partial update or the update was corrupt.

Why my Wifi4s cannot switch on

THANKS A LOT, RESETTING NETWORK SETTINGS MADE IT WORKING AGAIN.

THANKS A LOT

i fixed my wifi by going to sarfi under settting, advanced and deleted my website data. My wifi started to work like normal.

I have a new iphone 5, connected to wi-fi but internet did not work. God bless whoever who gave this advice:

"Entering manual DNS settings has been reported to help. Navigate to Settings -> Wi-Fi and touch the blue arrow next to your connected Wi-Fi network. Touch DNS and enter Google's DNS server address (either 8.8.4.4 or 8.8.8.8)"

I entered 8.8.4.4 and everything was back to normal. Seriously, I did not know buying a new iphone included signing up for some self research to make it work.

Good luck to you on fixing your iphone too.

Thank you so much !!! I would hug you for helping on this !!
