iOS messages can take up a lot of space, especially if there are many videos and photos stored in iMessage and text threads. Older messages can accumulate and must be manually removed to free up storage on an iOS device.
iOS 7 has changed the process of deleting individual and multiple text messages. What if you're interested in deleting everything from the iOS 7 Messages app?
The process to delete messages in iOS 7 has changed. Sure, you can swipe from right to left in the Messages list to delete all messages from a particular contact or group. What if you only want to delete one text or iMessage from a sender? What if you want to select only a few messages to delete?
Follow these steps to remove a text, photo, video or iMessage from the Messages app in iOS 7:
1. Tap and hold the message you wish to delete.
2. Touch More... from the pop-up menu.
3. The message will be selected (you'll see a blue circle with check mark).
Names appearing in Messages are listed by first name only in iOS 7. Although this is a more casual approach that also saves space, it could be an easy way to mix up some of the duplicate names in your contacts. For those iOS 7 users who prefer full names, the option to revert means changing these settings:
Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> CONTACTS -> Short Name -> OFF (grey switch, NOT green)
iOS 7 will still use nicknames for contacts with a nickname entered. You can take this a step further and turn off nicknames for these people using the following switch:
Locking rotation on iOS prevents apps from responding to sensors which detect device orientation. This is useful when reading, for example. With the release of iOS 7, the rotation lock toggle has been moved to Control Center.
To access Control Center and lock rotation in iOS 7 follow these steps:
1. Swipe up from the bottom of the home screen to bring up Control Center.
2. The top row of the Control Center shows 5 circular toggles.
The furthest right icon looks like an arrow around a padlock - touch this icon to enable or disable rotation lock on your device.
The iPhone makes it simple to add new contacts directly from recently used phone numbers. The process in iOS 7 has been revised, but is still relatively straightforward. To add a new contact from the Phone app:
1. Navigate to Phone -> Recents.
2. Scroll down to the phone number you wish to add to contacts.
3. Tap the blue information circle (i) to the right of the new contact number.
4. Scroll down to Create New Contact.
5. Enter the first and last name or other relevant data.
5. Select Done in the upper right corner to add the contact.
