iPhone 7: Home button will feature Force Touch ID

iPhone 7 Force Touch ID

What is Force Touch ID? According to a report from Cowen and Company, Apple may debut the technology on the iPhone 7 this fall. Force Touch ID would replace the home button with a capacitive touch sensor to unlock the device. The iPhone 7 concept from designer Yasser Farahi shown above includes a flush home button that avoids using any moving parts.

iPhone 7 comes into focus as reports fly

iPhone 7 concept

As usual several reports from the supply chain and analyst sources are looking towards Apple's next generation of iPhones. First in line is new information about a metal iPhone 6c to be released early next year. The launch of this 4-inch iPhone upgrade marks a departure from Apple's annual refresh cycle. Speaking of which, the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 is expected to drop in September 2016 with a bevy of enhancements and an even thinner design. The concept above from Mesut G. Designs is loosely based on recent reports, featuring a 3D Touch home button embedded under the display itself.

Add the Apple Pay Animation to the Lock Screen

The jailbreak tweak LockGlyph combines two Touch ID features into one to increase eye appeal on the lock screen. Once installed, LockGlyph adds the Apple Pay animation and sound effect to Touch ID authentication when unlocking iOS 8.

Simply tap the home button on the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 or 6 Plus and a stylized fingerprint icon appears followed by a check mark upon a successful scan. Voila, the device is unlocked in style with graphics and sound resembling Apple Pay authentication.

First Touch ID Jailbreak Tweak Hits Cydia

It didn't take long for the first Touch ID tweak to land in the Cydia app store. Virtual Home allows you to use your Home button to access the app switcher or return to the Home screen without actually pressing down on the physical button. The tweak basically transforms your Touch ID sensor into a virtual Home button, hence the name.

Virtual Home

Once installed, Virtual Home users can tap their Home button once to return to their Home screen, or tap and hold their Home button to open the app switcher in iOS 7. These gestures replace the need to press the Home button which gives it a much needed break from all your finger poking.
