The RollerCoaster Tycoon franchise has had a rocky relationship with the Apple App Store. Originally released in 1999 for the PC, the popular building game has been ported to the Xbox, spawned several sequels, and there have even been rumors of a potential movie. However, the last few entries into the series have been met with negative reviews from both critics and fans. RollerCoaster Tycoon World, released in 2016, currently sports a "Mostly Negative" rating on Steam, and it has earned a dismal 43 out of 100 on the review aggregator Metacritic.

Niantic has released Pokémon GO for Apple Watch on the App Store. The news comes after recent rumors that the project was scrapped, which proved to be false. Trainers with Apple Watch can explore the world and discover nearby Pokémon, as well as collect items from PokéStops. Sessions with the game can be logged as a Workout, which logs the distances covered and counts towards daily Activity rings.

However, the app has also earned a disappointing 3-star review on the App Store, mostly from 1-star reviews due to the premium price of $9.99. We all knew Super Mario Run would be an App Store hit, but what we didn't know is if the game would live up to the incredible hype. Nintendo's first stab at mobile gaming, Miitomo, was also an App Store hit when it was released, but players quickly lost interest and left the social app in droves. I'm happy to say Mario and friends seem at home on iOS, and Super Mario Run is more than the boring endless runner it could have turned out to be. This game is no Miitomo, and I'm excited to see what else Nintendo has planned for iOS in the future.
