Apple's HomeKit rumored to be delayed until August

HomeKit

Update: Apple has just told The Wall Street Journal that "HomeKit-enabled smart-home devices are coming out next month," refuting Fortune's report below.

There hasn't been a lot of talk about Apple's home automation platform, HomeKit, mostly because there have been lots of other products to keep Apple fans busy. The Siri-controlled feature was originally announced during last year's Worldwide Developer Conference, but not many details were revealed. Rumors suggested that the platform would launch in May or June, but now sources have told Fortune that the release has been pushed back until to late August or September.

Instead of pumping out the normal misinformed next-generation iPhone rumors at a rapid pace, the Apple rumor mill has instead been focused on the iWatch and Apple's rumored suite of upcoming health apps. On Monday, Reuters threw gasoline of the fire by reporting that Apple is "building a team of senior medical technology executives" to work on a health and fitness platform modeled after the App Store.

Rueters claims Apple is under pressure to deliver on CEO Tim Cook's promise that the company will deliver a new product category sometime this year. Apple Reportedly Teaming up with Shazam to Create Song-ID Feature for iOS

Apple helped put digital music on the map with the iPod in 2001, but according to Nielsen SoundScan, iTunes music downloads have fallen for the first time since the device's release. This is most likely due to the rise in popularity of free music streaming services such as Pandora and Spotify. Apple released its own streaming service in 2013 to compete with its competitors, but iTunes Radio hasn't seem to put a dent in the now crowded music streaming market.

Shazam

According to Bloomberg, Apple is now working with Shazam Entertainment Ltd. to create a "song-discovery feature" which will allow iOS users to identify a song and its artist while using their iPhone or iPad. Shazam is known for its popular free music recognition iOS app that also identifies music and TV.
