The last few years Apple has announced its new iPhone lineup in September, but this year consumers may have to wait a little longer to get their hands on the next-generation handset. According to a recent report from the Asian outlet Nikkei, Apple's "Tenth Anniversary iPhone" or iPhone 8 may be delayed until late October or November at the earliest.

An industry source said "the production of iPhone's 10th anniversary range has hit a snag as suppliers struggle to perfect key components including display, wireless charging and printed circuit boards."

New report claims Apple will go full OLED by 2019

All signs point to Apple releasing at least one OLED iPhone in 2017. The most recent report, from Nikkei Asian Review (via MacRumors), claims that later this year Apple will release two iPhone models with LCD displays, and one 5.8-inch iPhone model with an "organic light-emitting diode display." The Nikkei report is in step with previous rumors that claim Apple plans to release a larger iPhone 8 model without a physical Home button or bezels surrounding the display. However, it will take the iPhone-maker a couple of years to go full OLED for all its handset, according to The Bell.

With the next generation iPhone just months away, details regarding Apple's flagship smartphone are coming into focus. Previous reports have pointed to a radical new design in the works, set to make a splash at this fall's 10th anniversary of the iPhone. Apple may skip the iPhone 8 name entirely, opting for another title such as the iPhone X for its top-tier model. Two additional models that could be dubbed the iPhone 7s are also expected to launch in September.
