Top 10 iPhone 5s Problems, Issues and Complaints

The iPhone 5s represents several firsts for Apple and the smartphone industry in general. Not only does the device feature 64-bit architecture, but the latest iPhone integrates a fingerprint sensor and independent M7 motion coprocessor. With new technology there's always the potential for bugs to surface after the latest hardware gets into the hands of users everywhere.

Of course the iPhone 5s is no different, and while reviews have been overwhelmingly positive some users have reported problems. Complaints and issues can always be brought to Apple's attention either in iPhone support communities or at the retail store Genius Bar. Besides troubleshooting, keep in mind the iPhone 5s comes with a one-year AppleCare warranty. Usually devices can be repaired or replaced in-store.

So what are the major hardware and iOS 7 software issues facing iPhone 5s owners? Here's a list of the top 10 iPhone 5s problems, issues and complaints.

1. Sensor calibration problems

Some iPhone 5s copies are exhibiting symptoms of incorrectly calibrated sensors. Namely the compass, level, gyroscope and accelerometer. This means the data from these sensors doesn't appear quite right. It's not clear whether this is a hardware issue or iOS 7 problem, however Apple has been replacing affected units under warranty.

2. Apps crash more often

Reports indicate that apps are crashing twice as often on the iPhone 5s as they typically do on the iPhone 5. These are likely growing pains due to the 64-bit architecture of the iPhone 5s. There have also been reports of a blue screen of death (BSOD) which results in a reboot. While there are no specific fixes for the issue, developers are optimizing their apps for the new device. In the meantime, keep in mind the crash rate has only increased to two percent.

3. Apps automatically logging out

For some reason some iOS 7 users are noticing they have to log into certain apps repeatedly. This inconvenience could be related to background app refresh. Some developers have removed the feature to solve this issue, however iPhone 5s users can try turning off background app refresh themselves under Settings -> General -> Background App Refresh.

4. iMessage issues

Since the adoption of iOS 7 there have been reports of iMessage problems from some users. While not necessarily iPhone 5s-specific, these problems can affect communication between iPhone owners. Be aware of the fact that iMessage might not work properly if the iPhone 5s attempts to connect with a device experiencing these bugs. Leaving the option to send a normal text message as a backup can help by going to Settings -> Messages -> Send as SMS.

5. No NFC capability

The iPhone 5s does not include near field communication (NFC) hardware. Although analysts have expected Apple to eventually integrate the technology into its devices, the company may never offer an iPhone with NFC. With proprietary products such as AirDrop, Passbook and Touch ID, Apple likely has its own plans.

6. Fingerprint sensor limited to Apple apps

While Touch ID can be convenient, the system is limited to authorizing Apple purchases and making the passcode login experience more convenient. With privacy and security concerns in the public eye, Apple has no plans at the current time to open the Touch ID sensor to third-party apps. This could mean that one of the flagship features of the iPhone 5s remains limited in scope for some time.

7. Camera specs

The iPhone 5s continues Apple's commitment to stellar image quality and top-notch camera and video features. The addition of slow-motion, True Tone flash, and software improvements continues this trend. Despite all of this, some observers are disappointed that the iPhone 5s camera is not a bigger leap over its predecessor. While the image sensor has larger pixels, it remains at 8 megapixels. The f/2.2 aperture is larger than on the iPhone 5, but it's not the largest available on a smartphone.

8. Screen size

Apple's Retina display might top the charts for quality, but there are always detractors who point to comparable Android handsets and their much larger displays. Rumors that Apple is testing a larger iPhone display are floating around, however when it comes to the iPhone 5s the display measures 4 inches diagonally. This is identical in size to the iPhone 5, which Apple contends makes the device easy to operate with one hand.

9. Motion sickness from iOS 7

Parallax can be an interesting effect, taking advantage of the iPhone 5s A7 processor to give the iOS 7 home screen a 3D look. Only problem is that some users are getting nauseous when using their phone. Other animations can have a similar negative effect, such as zooming into an app screen when launching the software. 10. Low inventories and long wait times

Current wait times for an iPhone 5s range from 2-3 weeks when ordering from Apple's online store. Much like its predecessors, the latest iPhone is in high demand. Likewise Apple's tough production standards and tight release schedules are keeping the iPhone 5s in short supply. Gold iPhone 5s models are in particularly high demand. I am sure this piece of writing has touched all the internet visitors, its really really nice paragraph on building up new blog.

I'm really loving the theme/design of your
site. Do you ever run into any web browser compatibility problems?
A few of my blog readers have complained about my blog
not working correctly in Explorer but looks great in Safari.

Do you have any advice to help fix this issue?

Hi! Do you use Twitter? I'd like to follow you if that would be okay.
I'm undoubtedly enjoying your blog and look forward
to new updates.

Howdy this is somewhat of off topic but I was wanting to know if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you
have to manually code with HTML. I'm starting a blog soon but have
no coding skills so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I just couldn't leave your site prior to suggesting that I actually enjoyed the standard information a person supply in your visitors?
Is gonna be back incessantly in order to inspect new posts

Hmm it seems like your website ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I'll just sum it up what I had written and say, I'm thoroughly enjoying
your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I'm still new to everything.
Do you have any tips for inexperienced blog writers?
I'd definitely appreciate it.

I uploaded the update iso9 and my 5S started crashing. I called service and they sent me a new phone. Then I got charged $320 plus $29 service fee. This sucks I think Apple is ripping people off. They never Called about my phone and what was the problem. No follow up at all. I could have updated to the 6S if I had known. The fellow I talked to did not do a good job explaining thing.

My 5S seems to have the "guts" of the phone separating from the case. I can't push it back in place.
The phone has not been abused as it is almost always in my wife's purse and is almost never used.

Anybody else seem to have this problem.

I purchased my first I phone , a 5S on 2/10/14 it stopped working in Dec of 2015 , I called Apple and they sent me another 5 S , I have no idea weather it was re-furbished or not , the new phone lasted aprox. two mother and it too went belly up , I called Apple back and they suggested it may be a SIMM card so I called Straight Talk , my provider who took several weeks to send me a new SIMM card , The card did not work so I called Apple again and a Woman named Natalie H had me hook the phone to me computer and she did some tests and said the phone was the problem it had internal problems . At this point I have to say I am in sales and with out my phone I am out of business and my phone was bad during Turkey Rod Run here in Daytona Beach , so I lost a lot of money on auto parts ! any way I asked for an upgrade because I had no faith in the Apple S5 Apple refused saying they would only replace a phone with a like phone , I was told that if I took my bad phone to their store in Almont Springs , Fl , they may be able to do something for me , so I went there about a 60 mile trip , I was told there that they would give me a credit of $125.00 toward the purchase of a new upgrade . Well I paid $695.25 For my original phone 14 months before so I saw no reason why I should have to take such a loss unless they thought the phone was only worth that , but if so why did I pay almost 700 dollars for that piece of junk , They did give me another 5s at the store which has a habit of asking be passwords for several different things before I can use the phone at all I called APPLE yet again and we have been going back and forth since then and APPLE will not budge , They put forth a family type business , until the customer has a problem , at that point the customer is on their own , They are of the opinion that they have your money and no matter how bad their product their product is , you are stuck with it. For this reason I would not recommend the purchase of any phone from them . Apple has a fingerprint recognition system , which I have set up on my phone so if it reads my fingerprint why does it need additional passwords in order for me to make a phone call ? I also have an additional problem that I explained to Apple , that being the fact that I suffer from agent orange related problems and my memory is not what it should be since if=t is impractical for me to carry a notebook full of passwords , This phone has no reason to keep me from having to enter password for things I have no intention of using and blocking me from using my phone ! Please do not waste your money on APPLE PROCUCTS if you do you may be sorry because Apple has you money and there's nothing you can do about it !!

Worst phone I have ever buyed with worst service centres and worst staff....Well everything is worst about iphone..It was the huge wastage of my money which I earned from my hardwork...They people are liers they don't even stands on their promises and that is one year warranty...m still having warranty of atleast 6 months and they are saying that it is not coverable in warranty..It's really annoying..And the staff don't even know how to talk with customers..After wasting my 24 hours they people were saying that sir throw away your phone in dustbin...Great

I bought the apple iPhone 5s for my birthday on may 1st 2016 I have had to take it to the Apple Store 3 times now cause it keeps messing up I paid to much for this phone to do this I really think y'all need to up grade it for free to show you stand by your products now I'm having more trouble with this phone and it's my 3rd one please do the right thing.
