How can set the number of rings on my iPhone before voicemail picks up?

You can set the iPhone to wait longer or shorter than the default 20 seconds before it goes to voicemail when receiving an incoming call. This will result in a different number of rings before the voice messaging system picks up the line and plays your outgoing message. To change the amount of time the iPhone will ring follow these steps:

1. Open the phone app and dial *#61# on the Keypad. Press the Call button.

2. Locate this text on the screen: "Setting Interrogation Succeeded, Voice Call Forwarding, When Unanswered, Forwards to +" and record the 11-digit number after the + symbol.

3. Touch the Dismiss button. Now enter this code on the Keypad: *61*+ followed by the 11-digit Forwards to number recorded in step 2, followed by *11 and *ringtime#. Ringtime is the number of seconds you want your iPhone to ring before voicemail picks up. Your finished code should look something like this:

*61*+18555513466*11*30#

In the example above the ring time is set to 30 seconds. Press the Call button.

4. You should receive the message: Setting Activation Succeeded. Press Dismiss and next time you receive a call it will ring for the new amount of time before going to voicemail.

People...you have to follow the steps as written.

After several failures here is what I have determined has to be done.

1. Type in the code *#61#
2. Press send
3. Write down the phone number in the first paragraph on your screen
4. Push dismiss
5. Delete prior input of *#61#
6. Type in new input of *61*THE NUMBER THAT YOUR WROTE DOWN*11*30#
7. Push send.

That works!

It doesnt work for me because after putting in *#61# i get a message saying
Setting Interrogation Succeeded
Voice Call Forwarding
When Unanswered
Disabled

How do i enable it? Mike

No it doesn't. Followed instruction to a T, several times and keep getting error...unknown error message. IPhone 4s on O2. :( driving me insane.

Fantastic, it finally works!!!! Thank you thank you.

If you complete 1. & 2. you get no phone number in the first paragraph on your screen. There are no paragraphs on your screen. There is a robocall telling you the number can't be called and to hang up and call 611. What phone # are you talking about. Has it occurred to any of you that these instructions may vary or not even exist, from carrier to carrier? Is the number used in the example just an example, or can you use it? I have verizon through straight talk. When you say "push dismiss", do you mean push *? * is the dimissal symbol for verizon voicemail setup? The original instructions are themselves not clear, and yours are simpler, but they won't work on my straight talk verizon phone?!

Thank you, I had tried and tried, it said it worked every time but nothing did. So I followed your instructions and made it 30, and finally success, thank you.

Worked thanks

This worked perfectly and you all are total idiots

Tried it but was unable to enter anything in step 2 - I could not get any interaction at all.

Forget my post - I got it.

Thankyou so much
I only had a 5-digit number after the + symbol I tried it and it worked
Cheers

Thank you. I did this for one of my clients and it work. However, it's very tedious. There should be a feature on the phone to allow you to change the number of rings before going to VM. Ai Ya!!!

Works great, on the iphone4 make sure you hold down the 0 button until it changes to +

Worked great!! Had to clear first set of numbers dialed to get the code but after I did that it went right through without the + sign. Thanks so much!!

Worked great! Hopefully I will be hearing my calls now before being sent to voicemail. :)

Worked perfectly!!
Thanks so much

This worked like a dream, eventually. I have 12 digits not 11 but followed these instructions fully, entering all 12 digits. The main thing to know is that 30 seconds is the max. If you enter a larger number it fails.

worked perfectly!! Thanks so much-

Thank you! This worked perfectly.
I just got my first smart phone ~ a hand-me-down iPhone 4. How would anyone know this? i really appreciate your help.

Worked perfectly fine. I set mine to 30 just like in the example.

WORKS PERFECT thank you very much, now i can hear all the song not just half :D

Hi yes I tried by putting the number in my contacts and it worked first time

TRIED IT AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY FIRST TIME, THANKS,
PAUL MASSEY

PERFECT!!! Thank you SO MUCH! Just omit the "+" button and key everything as listed.

This is crazy! I have tried many many times to extend ring time and I continue to get an error notice. Why is so complicated? Should be a simple fix.

WORKED ABSOLUTELY FINE FOR ME THANX

I did the above without the + and it worked great. Thanks!

Worked Awesome thanks I used it on my iPhone 3 no dramas
