Will the New iPhone be Made of Plastic?

Apple's rumored low-cost iPhone could feature a "chassis mixed with plastic and metal" instead of the reinforced glass or unibody metal used for the current models, according to a report by the DigiTimes.

Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal both claim Apple is working on a $99 to $149 “entry-level” iPhone to "attract customers in developing nations". It also believed the more affordable iPhone will be made available in the U.S. sometime this year.

iPhone Rumor

Previous rumors have suggested that the new iPhone will feature components from older models, a 5-inch display and a new exterior design. The possible older components and plastic body would help Apple keep the cost down for the new model.

iPhone 5 Gets Bumper Case Update From ZAGG

Remember the iPhone Bumper case? Apple sold millions of these in various colors to help iPhone 4 owners protect their devices. Not only this, but the company gave many of them away for free and sent customers refunds to help solve antenna problems. Now ZAGG has updated the bumper with its Perimeter case for iPhone 5.

The iPhone bumper never looked this good. ZAGG has crafted a light, translucent case that minimizes bulk and maximizes protection. The Perimeter case has a slightly raised side, so when you lay the iPhone 5 down on its front or back the device is fully protected from scratches. The aluminum bezel and sides of the iPhone 5 are also protected, completely covered by the Perimeter.

Otterbox Announces Toughest iPhone 5 Case Ever Built

Otterbox has announced its new Armor Series of smartphone cases for the iPhone 4/4S and iPhone 5. Otterbox claims these are the toughest cases they've ever built, and says they're waterproof for 30 minutes in 6.6 ft. of water, and can survive 10 ft. drops. The Armor case also allows for zero entry of dust and debris and can withstand two tons of crushing force.

The iPhone 5 case weights 3.91 oz and the iPhone 4/4S case weighs 4.23 oz. The case will set you back $100, but that's a lot cheaper than replacing your smashed or water damaged iPhone.
