Facebook removes Slingshot and other apps from App Store

Facebook may be the biggest social networking service in the world, but its many attempts to take over people's smartphones with various services, such as Facebook Home, have all failed. Facebook's latest attempt at smartphone domination included Creative Labs -- a company initiative that encouraged Facebook employees to design mobile applications for smart devices. On Monday, Facebook quietly pulled the plug on Creative Labs and three of its apps, according to CNET.

Apple Watch sales grow as Samsung drops out of the top five wearables rankings

Apple is hot on the heels of Fitbit for the top spot in the worldwide wearables market, according to IDC. The Apple Watch has seen a slight bump in sales from an estimated 3.6M units in Q2 to 3.9M in Q3. This makes Apple the number two wearables vendor worldwide after Fitbit, with Chinese vendor Xiaomi finishing third, and newcomer XTC helping knock Samsung out of the top five.

Apple's Swift programming language is now open source

Apple has launched Swift.org to announce that the Swift language, debugger, supporting libraries, and package manager have been published under the Apache 2.0 license with a Runtime Library Exception. This means the source code is freely available on GitHub for anyone to build themselves, and developers can contribute to the project. Since its initial release in mid-2014, Apple has intended for Swift to become an open source programming language.
