Beware of In-App Purchase scams on the App Store

News flash: the iPhone does not need a virus scanner, malware cleaner or any other bogus system security provided by an app. Third-party iOS apps are sandboxed, meaning they are insulated from the host system. Not only does this enhance security, but it means that any app claiming to perform a "system scan" is outright nonsense. Apps are not capable of scanning, cleaning or protecting any iOS device, including the iPad and iPhone. Despite this, Johnny Lin at Medium has found many of these scams alive and well on the App Store.

Apple on Monday announced that its all-new, redesigned App Store will launch in iOS 11 this fall. The new App Store has been designed from the ground up to "make discovering apps and games easier than ever before," according to the press release. Users will be able to read through stories, in-depth interviews and helpful tips in the new Today tab, and discover new games and apps in the Games and Apps sections.

Apple previewed iOS 11 at WWDC 2017 this week. The new OS includes a variety of functionality changes that should make iPhone and iPad owners happy. The App Store has been redesigned with new Today and Games tabs featuring suggested apps that you may like, and Siri will feature a new “more human” voice. iOS 11 also shows the iPad some love with new features such as a customizable Dock, a Folders system and better multitasking.

Unlike the iPhone which is primarily released in the fall, Apple’s launch schedule for the iPad has been all over the map the last couple of years. Instead of releasing a new iPad once a year like in the past, Apple has staggered its launch schedule due to slumping sales. In 2017 the company released a new entry-level 9.7-inch model in March, and on Monday it launched its newest iPad Pro models. Here is what the current iPad lineup looks like for 2017.

On Monday, over 5,000 developers attended Apple's 2017 Worldwide Developers Conference at the San Jose Convention Center in California. As expected, Tim Cook and team announced several new products, and previewed Apple's upcoming software, including iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra. Over the course of the keynote Apple unveiled a powerful all-new iMac Pro, a smart speaker called the "HomePod" and a new 10.5-inch iPad Pro.
