Survey Says: Bigger iPhone 6 Could Lead to 15 Million More Sales

At this stage of the game it is all but certain that the standard iPhone 6 will have a larger, 4.7" display and there will be a larger, phablet-size model with a display somewhere in the 5.5" - 5.7" display. Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty believes that the larger displays could translate to a 30 percent increase in sales.

Hulu Plans to Add Free Streaming Option to Mobile Devices

Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins announced this morning at a press event in New York City that the company plans to bring its free ad-supported streaming service to mobile devices. Currently non-subscribers can only access free full TV episodes on desktop computers or laptops. Hulu also announced plans to launch "the next generation" of the Hulu Plus iPhone app this summer.

According to a Hulu blog post, Hulu Plus has surpassed 6 million subscribers. The ad-supported subscription service costs $7.99 a month for full access to current and back episodes of popular television shows from ABC, Comedy Central, The CW, FOX, NBC, MTV and Univision.

Apple Offering an Extra $80 for iPhone 5 Trade-Ins with Faulty Sleep/Wake Buttons

Apple last week announced that it would begin replacing the sleep/wake button mechanism on all iPhone 5 models that were manufactured through March 2013. Customers with a faulty sleep/wake button can either bring in or mail their device to an Apple Repair Center and have it fixed free of charge in approximately 4-6 days, or trade it in for an extra $80 of in-store credit, according to 9to5Mac.

According to a retail store memo issued to employees, customers can opt to trade-in their broken iPhone 5 for $350 instead of waiting up to 6 days for it to be repaired. $350 is $80 more than the normal non-affected device trade-in value. To take advantage of the deal, your iPhone 5 must exhibit the known sleep-wake issue and have a qualifying serial number. The device must also have no other problems such as a cracked display or other damage.

The biggest news of the week from Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) was the company's Q2 earnings report, which was released on Wednesday. Quarterly revenue, net profit and gross margin all surpassed the year ago quarter's numbers, as well as most analysts' expectations. The better-than-expected earnings were mostly due to 43.7 million iPhone sales, which easily topped last year's Q2 sales of 37.4 million and analysts' expectations of around 38 million. On the other hand, iPad sales slumped to just 16.35 million, down 16 percent from a year ago.
