How can I downgrade from 1.1.3 to an earlier version of iPhone firmware?

For some time it was thought, and reported many places (here included), that there was no downgrade from 1.1.3 once you had upgraded. This was due to the fact that 1.1.3 upgrades the iPhone baseband, and that downgrading to an earlier firmware would leave the new baseband intact and the resulting iPhone firmware incompatible with the baseband.

Thanks to the efforts of the iPhone development community, this is no longer the case. If you would like to downgrade your iPhone 1.1.3, follow these downgrade instructions.

iPhone 1.1.3 Jailbreak for Windows Released (Mac coming soon)

Well, we said we wouldn't be releasing news about a 1.1.3 jailbreak again until something concrete was available. That was just a few hours ago, and that something concrete is already here. Earlier this afternoon, notable iPhone hacker Nate True released instructions on his blog on how to jailbreak 1.1.3. Like the 1.1.2 jailbreak, this latest version requires that you start with an already jailbroken phone of an earlier version.

According to Nate True's blog on, you can find complete the jailbreak by following these steps:

1.1.3 Jailbreak Right Around the Corner? Claims May be False.

As is typical with the iPhone rumor mill, things are starting to get out of control. Less than an hour ago, we brought you a recent piece of news/rumor that was spreading on the web which suggested that the iPhone jailbreak for 1.1.3 would be released either tonight or tomorrow. According to the "latest latest" rumors, this may now be false.

According to gadget blog MyiTablet, this news - which was picked up by a number of sites (including this one) - was little more than a prank. According to MyiTablet,

Truth is, these rumors are false. There is no v1.1.3 jailbreak being released soon. There really is no projected date on when a 1.1.3 jailbreak will be available, but the dev team is working hard on it.

This increased security is reportedly making it more difficult for the dev teams to successfully jailbreak the iPhone in a manner which allows it to work with existing third party applications.

This contention is directly contrary to those previously made by other sources, which leaves the responsibility of making

iPhone 1.1.3 Jailbreak Supposedly Coming Tonight or Tomorrow

The latest word regarding the 1.1.3 jailbreak, out of iPhoneAtlas, suggests that a version will be released to the public as early as tonight or tomorrow. The yet to be released jailbreak method will, like the 1.1.2 jailbreak, require a moderate amount of user involvement and knowledge -- a mix of scripts and user input. Thankfully, though, nothing along the lines of the very first iPhone jailbreak methods.

As we reported yesterday, the dev teams have now developed two different versions of the 1.1.3 jailbreak. The plan, as mentioned yesterday, is to release one method for iPhone owners to use now while holding onto the second method for

Latest on the 1.1.3 Jailbreak - Coming Soon

Earlier this week, it was reported that an iPhone 1.1.3 jailbreak had been accomplished but would not be released. Amongst the reasons that the initial jailbreak would not be released was that the jailbreak was not completely software driven, and as such required hardware modification. While this news certainly didn't perk up the spirits of 1.1.3 adopters that were sorely missing their third party apps, the latest very well may.
