Apple Weekly News Roundup: NFC Chip for iPhone 6, Samsung Suit Retrial and More

This week, in a note to investors, Morgan Stanley analyst Craig Hettenbach advised that the next generation iPhone will likely be equipped with an NFC chip (Near Field Communication). This, along with other technology such as iBeacon, will facilitate mobile payments.

Apple predicted to incorporate NFC chip in iPhone 6

Apple and Samsung's patent infringement lawsuit is heading to retrial. Both companies filed for retrial on Friday, and in a second filing, Apple is seeking to have all Samsung devices in question to be banned from the U.S. market.

The acquisition of Beats continues to drag on. The latest rumors suggest that Apple wants Jimmy Lovine and Dr. Dre more than it wants the hardware and technology.

Popular iOS game "Weed Firm" reached number one on the charts this week and was promptly removed from the App Store by Apple. The developer responded, "We do not want kids playing Weed Firm, but we firmly believe that adults should have a choice to do whatever the hell they want as long as they are not hurting anybody in the process." They plan to re submit a censored version.

A California woman filed suit against Apple over an iMessage issue that interferes with text messages when the user switches to a non-iOS device. Apple acknowledged the problem and said it was working on a fix that will be available in an iOS update.
